Is Combat Engie "O.P"?
I personally don't think any class is op but sometimes I just wonder about classes.
I played on a Turbine server recently and one team was spawn camped by the other through sentries. More specifcally there was a majority of Mini Sentries. And earlier today I was playing good ol' 2fort and decided to be Combat engie to help my team get the intel faster and help the team out. I set up a little base in the opposite team's sewers and only kept the sewers safe with my mini sentry. I went form 10-20 points to 60-70 within a short amount of time through heals, kills, and teleports. I was just amazed and it really made me appreciate Engineer again. I don't get that amount of points that quickly. Some people could consider this an example of being op but I just don't really find it op. I just wanna hear what you guys think of Combat Engie and share some of your stories :)

who plays the game for points? Nothing is OP in this game, much like all Valve Games its mostly completitive with some casual just like in Counter Strike it takes skill and coordination or just very bad enemies.

one time i shot a mini sentry three times and it didn't die but i did and the engineer laughed so yes it's op please nerf

don't be confused when you dominate another team of pub players, sometimes a group is "that" bad. it doesn't mean your strategy is effective. good teams can easily take apart any attempts by a engi to deploy forward like that.

against a bad pub team i got 12+kills in a streak as a phlog, server stopped counting after that...but against a good team, i couldn't repeat the same performance.

"please nerf" because i'm not a good player is not valid.

It's not so much OP as poorly effort-indexed (too effective for low effort/skill) and anti-fun (pretty much shuts out scouts, hurts pyros pretty hard, hurts soldiers and demomen who jump because of the long-range aimbot knockback).

It's also pretty cheesy on certain KOTH maps because timers are so short and some maps (Nucleus comes to mind) make it easy to find mini locations that can pepper the point.

well but it doesn't, its called team fortress for a reason. Scout can always bonk past any mini, and demo/soldiers can slaughter the engi, or even a spy, if a engi is having the lulz at the front it just means the other team doesn't know what the heck they are doing. if everyone on that team thinks they should stay sniper when theres an engi building at their front then well, they deserve what they get. its about as cheesy as a heavy, if the other team can't deal with it, then yes he's going to get some easy kills but it means nothing. even a bad player can aim a sticky at a stationary minisentry and knock it out in a snap, the engi has 200 metal only, engi runs out long before the demo runs out of stickies.

But if the engie gets a dispencer up, basicly the engieneer has a infinite supply of mini sentries, and stickies and rockets dont take it out in one hit. Put it this way, If I was playing soldier [Which I am pretty good at] I use the direct hit, one shot the sentry, engieneer puts another and rushes me with a shotgun. At this point I have no choice but to shoot the mini sentry. Because that thing will reduce the amount of time I live, PER SECOND. but the engieneer can finish me off.

lol no, to get a dispenser up takes a lot of time, and half his metal, making his a huge target for that entire time, if your team can't take him out before that or even just target his dispenser which is freakin stationary, then engis are the least of your problems. plus an engi standing next to his "dispenser" is a 2 for 1 for a sticky bomb. you don't get shot by the sentry at all if you have rockets or stickies, its line or sight, explosive weapons are not line of sight, 2 fort you just shoot from behind the front door or whatever at an angle, there is no hiding.

I feel like the range could be smaller. I don't really like being shot halfway across the field in Harvest.

its range is no further than the range of classes that can easily kill it, in fact its less.

That's a little over the top, to say its firing half the field away. It's annoying to run into the little buggers, but it hardly qualifies as "OP." This is a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, and Shotgun. Just about anything can be countered.

If someone isn't smart enough to change to the right class or work with other players in an engie-infested area they deserve to be dominated.

Demomen and Soldiers don't have aimbot

Demomen and Soldiers don't have aimbot

you don't need an aimbot to hit a stationary target-_-

I'm of the mind that it's acceptable on most game modes but is bonkers effective on KoTH and the map Doomsday. It's so easy to crap out mini's and just shut down classes that aren't the soldier or demoman. You can even be incredibly obnoxious as engi and put them on a ledge so that classes below can barely see or shoot at the sentry itself. The old argument of "play soldier or demoman" is somewhat valid but doesn't hold water when you're trying to do your job and jump in on players only to be shot out of the air by a 2.5 second deployable aimbot that cost the owner exactly one dropped weapon.

I do feel that the playstyle is somewhat fun and should be preserved as much as possible. I also feel that if we forget KoTH/Doomsday and have consider servers where there's actual communication and people playing demoman and soldier the gunslinger engineer is no longer a pressing issue.

Just some rough ideas -

Reduce sentry turn rate buff - not able to spin to shut down any threat in it's sphere of fire, therefor a mini is not as bad to scouts or as effective on KoTH. Doesn't drastically effect gamemodes like Attack/Defend, Payload where enemies come from one direction normally.

Remove health regeneration whilst building - at the moment once a mini is fully built it immediately gains full health regardless of what was shooting at it whilst it built. This is incredibly annoying and hard to measure as an attacker.

Increase metal cost - not able to spam 2 mini's from full metal without finding alternate metal source.

Decrease dispenser cost to compensate - encourage combat engineers to help the team and still place sentry/dispenser with one load of metal

Just some ideas to get some more suggestions rolling. Personally I think the health regen while building should go, it's obnoxious to play against in that sense.
