Team Fortress 2
Who keeps changing the metal prices on Keys?
I have a bone to pick with them, and I'm sure many of us do too. I don't feel like buying them from the store. (Am I on the wrong forms?)

They are formless. They are the spirit that the community members of TF2 invoke so often. In other words, it's the TF2 community.

points to anyone who got the reference
Trading in both virtual and real life is some serious business, you always have to take time to check prices in order to achieve maximum trading progress. Just keep price checking instead of trying to find out who is changing them.
Backpack.tf has a lot of influence on prices in my opinion.

From what I've seen, backpack.tf sets prices, then Outpost starts selling keys at that price plus a bit more to make a profit, leading to people voting to raise the price of keys on backpack.tf because all the trades they've seen have been higher, then those prices get accepted and the cycle starts again.

Dunno if that's what's actually happening but it's what I've been seeing.

I think he's partly right. If I'm right, backpack.tf sets prices by voting, and only positive votes work. They way they get positive votes on setting new prices is by showing proof for a given suggested price. They usually get these proofs by linking trade pages from outpost.

soooo, the responsible parties are the suppliers (who are being more greedy) and the consumers (the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who want keys so bad that they keep paying the inflated prices).

We're responsible for the tf2 economy since it's all based on the players. If everyone basically said "Nope, not going to do this ♥♥♥♥. I'm buying keys at 2.66 like it was in the good ol' days." Then eventually the sellers would get impatient/desperate and concede to the DEMANDERS (us) because if nobody buys it, they don't make profit anyway. However, most people here are freakin impatient and (for some reason)desperate to get keys and therefore instead concede to the SUPPLIERS.
In short, everybody.

And backpack.tf prices are compiled among community feedback.
because the people who use backpack.tf are mainly avid traders who vote on every thing. They have so many keys that it could make their backpack go from 400 to 500 ref. they will vote yes if it went to 10 ref. I really dislike that. Tf2 is a GAME, not an economy. It sucks the fun out when people have 20+ keys. I really don't care if someone has a BMOC, some lesser hats look much better
Don't worry, there's no high chance of many votes and proof being totally scammed out.

You know
like
tons of people agreeing each other to set up a price, not even being friends and try to raise the positive vote.

And there's no way to notice that.
The key price is rising because you can sell them on the market now. Thus less keys available for trade but more people who want to buy them for metal to sell them for steam wallet, so the price is going up.
I heard it was Adam Smith's invisible hand.
The idiots over at Spreadsheet might have something to do with it.
