Well, probably because the community is really nice, I like the cartoonish graphics, and that's it. Now, I could make a list of reasons why I HATE this game, but I would kinda hijack your
thread, I mean I do that enough.

Maybe you're letting peer presure get to you. I felt the same way about L4D2 in the first month that I had it. ("WANNA PLAY L4D2 RIGHT NOW ON THE MAP YOU'VE ALREADY PLAYED FOUR TIMES TODAY?!?!")

If you don't like it, just take a break and try again in a week or two. Then, just play how you want to play.

Some things I find fun about this game are:
epic rampages, hilarious moments, characters reacting perfectly to stuff that happens (About to die as a demo with a sticky under the enemy, scout assists, "I didn't need ya help, ya know."), sticky/rocket/pipe/sentry/detonator jumping, proper flanking and other such spy-ish moments, brilliant teamwork, epic rampages -MvM version-, perfect combinations of mods, servers with cool mods, and servers with sane people who don't shoot just because they were given a weapon.
I started long before TF2 by playing Team Fortress Classic, and I have to say that the main reason I play TF2 is the acheivement items. Plus I like the Pyros Flamethrower better than the one in TFC. But I do miss the ability to infect the enemy while playing as a Medic, that and the MIRV Grenades that Heavy and the Demoman had.

The main reason I keep getting back to TF2 is simply because it has (almost) everything. Want to sneak and backstab people? Check! Feel like the lone ranger, picking enemies off from a distance who never saw you till your bullet crushed their cranium? Check! Want to continously shoot a huge gun and be a devastating menace on any battlefield? Check! Feel like just blowing things up or setting them on fire? Check! Want to rush around, use your reflexes to the very core to dodge rockets? Check! Want to feel like a tactical mastermind, controlling the very eb and flow of battle by deciding who lives, who dies, and who will become invincible? Check! Want to build devastating killing machines, capable of defending choke-points against endless hordes of enemies? Check!

And if that is not enough, you can utilize these skills in, what, 8 different game-modes now? And if even that does not hold your interest, get tons of items and hundreds of achievements? How do people ever get bored of all that?

Because you can trade them, wear them, and earn them.
It's a goal system for your head.

They're comfy and you wear them on your head. What's not to love?

when valve added hats to the game they made people believe that wearing a hat makes you a better person, most people here believe in what valve said

It's very hard to take your thread seriously when your grammar is as bad as the programming of Sonic '06.

Provide a source where they said that hats make you a better person.
