Team Fortress 2
Tuxes WILL be like Earbuds.
This is all assuming that they become tradable, of course.

Anyway, there are currently only 6,000 Tuxes in TF2 out of 3 million backpacks. By the end of the event, it will probably be around 10,000. That's 0.33% of TF2 users and that's only right after the event ends. If tradable, they will definitely become very valuable. The lack of Tuxes is probably because the vast majority of TF2 users don't know how to use a virtual machine or dual boot.

6000 non private backpacks, keep in mind there is a considerable amount of private backpacks. Also this event last for 2 weeks, there are hundreds of tutorials to install linux and of course anyone can get dozen of them in idle accounts and farm them. I highly doubt it will be 10,000. Since this is lasting for 2 weeks people will begin to hoard thinking it will be the new earbuds, I expect around 30,000.
Okay, 30,000. That's still only 1%.
Earbuds are Earbuds because they are currency. It has nothing to do with rarity.
Actually it has a lot to do with the rarity.
OP is correct. THere is COUNTLESS threads and people asking ingame how to install Linux. Then theres the ones that installed it and couldn't get TF2 to run because of driver problems...and theres the ones that gave up and uninstalled the linux partition and prevented themselves from booting to their main OS lol. bottom line is that there won't be many tux's out there.. less than 30k by the end of the month. for sure

I'm glad that someone agrees with me. Also I lol'd at the main OS part.
I'm glad I got mine. I'll probably never trade it.
Wait till its like worth 50 keys ( but wont probably happen), then i will trade away it xD
I missed the earbuds last time , so I'm happy to have a cute Tux :DD
I love penguins so ill do my best to get ubuntu and get tux!
Tux will only be worth something is people find the item desirable, fashionable, cool, unique, distinct, etc.

People need to WANT the item, if they do then we might see some decent prices _if_ the item is also rare.

These 2 factors need to co-exist for Tux to be expensive: extremelly desirable + rare (and of course tradable/giftable which is something the item isn't atm).

I gots my tux on ubuntu!!! So happy :D
No doubt they will be like the earbuds. However, they will likely be lower in price since they are not that old.
Supply AND demand. Earbuds used to be less than a scrap, because there were so many of them. It wasn't until people started hoarding them and they became actually difficult to find that their price rose and they became a currency. But Earbuds were and still are desirable. That's the demand part. And for something to become valuable, BOTH prerequisits must be met. Just because there are fwe of them won't mean that they will be worth more than buds. Earbuds are desirable because they look nice; from what I've seen and heard, the same cannot be said about the Tux. So as they might be worth a... "significant" amount. It's not very likely they they will be the new buds.

People wear absolutely ugly unusuals just because unusuals are rare.

I wear my tux because I like it and it makes the ScoRes taunt 10x more awesome.
