Same, Ads pop up while ingame, and then hl2.exe has stopped working.

Solution : Go advanced options and disable HTML MOTDs. Worked for me.

Does not work. Some ads is bypassing that HTML disabling and crashing your game, before the ad pop ups.

Not only that.. but I've seen pinion servers where you HAVE to enable HTML MOTDs or else you won't be able to play.

Try this method[nopinion.tumblr.com] alongside the disabling HTML MOTDs. So far the servers that busted my ♥♥♥ about it haven't given me grief.

Make sure you back up that host file.

Actually, the best known fix is typing: unbindall, into the console.

It resets the entire tf2 file, so that all the saved pinion configs are removed, and you can go in without seeing any MOTD's again.
