road to unusual
alright, so I'm trying to "turn" my strange jarate into an unusual by trading. Now that I've sold it for 2 ref, I realized that i have no idea what to buy for them. So what I'm asking for are suggestions on what item to get. It should be in great demand and worth 2 ref or a bit more (I'm pretty patient and using outpost, etc. so it should be possible to get such an item).

srsly? nobody?

You'll never be able to turn 2 ref into an unusual--not in any reasonable amount of time. You're better of crafting drops into metal, turning those into keys, and buying an unusual with keys.

I don't care how long it takes. I got the jarate as a gift, along with a few hats and miscs by a random player. He mentioned that he really likes max' severed head, but he never had the chance to get it. To reward his kindness, I want to turn his jarate into a decent unusual, which i will then trade for a max' severed head

It's just not a feasible option. I know what you're wanting to do... Buy an item cheap and flip it (sell it) to someone else for a much higher price. We all want to do that... TF2 trading just doesn't work like that.

Meanwhile, you have to deal with the ever increasing price of items (inflation). The little growth that may come from buying low and selling high very likely will get eaten up by inflation.

You could probably buy 2 strange axtinguishers, and then sell them to someone for 1.33 ref each.

But as Matt said, this will take an insanely long time.

according to spreadsheet, one strange axtinguisher is worth 2 ref. But thanks anyway, that's the first suggestion i got, so I'll try it.

Spreadsheet lies.

Do not use it.

Kyle Macdonald traded his way from a red paperclip to a house. So it's possible.

Things like keys or hats are factual there, because everyone knows the price of them, usually so making it something random like 2 scrap would make it suspicious.

Most of it is lies, just so the creators can make some money.

and to answer the op's question, i would reccommend a generally well liked all class hat. could a company man or killer exclusive be in your interest?

i suppose, but in some cases the manipulation of prices may benefit others besides the owner(s) of the website.

Buy two 1ref hats, sell them for 1.33, buy two more hats worth 1 ref, sell them for 1.33 buy 1 key for 3.33, sell for 3.55. Then continue from step no. 1.
