I can't mentor you one on one in-game via microphone but I can give you a few tips here. I would recommend you start out by doing the offline training mode, then practice offline by playing against bots on the different modes/maps. Find a class you are the most comfortable with, most people would recommend the soldier. I would stay away from starting out as a spy since it is a difficult class to master. It's also important to practice, practice, practice offline against the bots until you feel confident enough to play online against other players. Another good source for learning this game is the official TF2 Wiki which is loaded with tons of important info on the game. http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page

Hope this helped you some and have fun learning this great game.

You may want to start off by watching the meet the scout, meet the solidier etc. videos. They may help you out. Also look for some other videos like this on youtube. I found one for the spy and now I am fairly good at it. Next you may want to try the training mode. Then do some warfare against bots. I started online after about a week and now I am fairly good at the game. :) And the biggest rule is master a class one at a time! Start off with the scout or solidier and leave the cooler and more complicated classes to the end like the spy and engineer. Also find a class that you like. I prefer the heavy, solidier and engineer. Hope this helps. We should do a private game together some time.

Here's a medic tip from a pro medic.
When you heal someone, get up close to your heal target's back, then keep looking behind him and your sides for dangers such as spies. So neither of you get backstabbed.
Don't forget to spy-check people before healing them.
