How to block Pinion Ads/Skip MOTD Waiting Time
was under the impression that the majority of players knew about the Tf2adblock, but based on the few times I post it, I seem to be wrong.

Video Tutorial/Example

Anyways, if youd like to go to any server without the fear of "Pinion ads" or "You may close the motd in x seconds", then get the file below

TF2Adblock[github.com]

Its just a .cfg file that protects against server side exploits, fairly simple actually.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post/pm me but make sure you follow the Readme file which is basically:

1: Paste the Protect.cfg file into your Steam/steamapps/username/teamfortress/tf/cfg folder.
2:In that same folder, there should be a file called "autoexec.cfg". Open it with notepad and type "exec protect.cfg" into it and save it.

Here are the contents of protect.cfg
//------------------------------------------------ // TF2 Anti-Virus by Casual v1.0 //------------------------------------------------ // Protection against server_can_execute bypass // Make your cfg/config.cfg read-only for extra protection cl_allowupload 0 alias cl_allowupload "echo Blocked cl_allowupload!" alias clear "echo Blocked clear!" alias unbindall "echo Blocked unbindall!" // Adblock for motd, extra protection: // > Create an empty file in your tf directory named textwindow_temp.html and make it read-only (this prevents the motd from being saved & loaded) // > Add '127.0.0.1 motd.pinion.gg' to your hosts file. This prevents a well known motd advertising network to load cl_disablehtmlmotd 1 alias closed_htmlpage "echo Blocked pinion!" // Gets rid of servers playing annoying sound files alias play "echo Blocked play!" alias sndplaydelay "echo Blocked sndplaydelay!" alias playgamesound "echo Blocked playgamesound!" alias soundfade "echo Blocked soundfade!" // Servers don't need this alias cl_spec_mode alias rpt_connect alias r_screenoverlay

problem solved
what if i dont have an autoexec.cfg?

This is my (preferred) method of creating autoexec.

1. Make a copy of one of the class cfgs.
2. rename it autoexec
3. add exec protect.cfg
Then you're probably in the wrong folder. Should be about 8 *.cfg files in a folder named cfg.
If you don't have that, you have other issues. (run the game once and they should appear, also try validating the steam cache)

Also that script will get rid of ALL ads. I found a site with the list of all 30 or so pinion webservers and added them all as 127.0.0.1 (the localhost address) in my Window's host file. So I don't need that script unless other servers use pinion-like tactics.

GamersUN and their Pinion ads were not really annoying until they bumped up the waiting time to 40 seconds, they even make ads appear in-game which is extremely annoying.

thanks for putting your time into this.
i have this, but pinion is not being shown but I can't leave the motd

Yeah, can't get around that. Pinion fixed it x(
type "connect <serverIP> matchmaking" in console
(get server ip by right-clicking in server browser -> view server info)

I've been using this for a while now adn I'm very happy with it, thanks ; )
But lately I noticed something: It still works just fine and let's me skip all kinds of crap, but now some text saying "Loading..." get's stuck in the midle of my screen forever.
Not really that annoying or noticeable, for that matter, but I figured I should warn the comunity about this. I don't know, they might be really close to fixing this.
Is there a way to turn it off?

Delete the cfg file and remove the instructions from your autoexec.
Well this didn't work for me, so I just did
connect -ip- matchmaking

i'll probably make a guide or something since this hasn't worked since valve "fixed" pinion.
It didn't work I'm still forced to wait.
