A fix for Pinion and Co
Get rid of server advertisements, skip forced waiting times like Pinion's Pot o' Gold and block server-own sound effects.

It's easy: Just download awesome mister Casual's https://github.com/CasualX/SourceProtect/blob/master/protect.cfg and place it in your config file.

Step by setp:

1. Create a new, empty text file named 'Exec protect.txt'.

2. Copy and paste the text from here [github.com]into this text file.

3. Save the text file, then change its ending from '.txt' to '.cfg'. You should get a notice about changing the file type might lead to the content becoming gibberish; pretend you know what you're doing and confirm that.

4. Deploy the resulting 'Exec protect.cfg' file at your Steam/steamapps/"your username here"/teamfortress/tf/cfg folder.

5. Close everything and [re]start steam.

6. Try it out, go ahead and play a round of TF2 without being bothered by any server-side annoyances.

Further information can be found here[github.com] and also here's a video step-by-step tutorial on how to install Casual's 'Antivirus' on your 'puter:

Chairforce.

Is this the latest blocker?
The one I used stopped working some days ago.
They're really trying to circumvent blockers.

As far as I know, yes.
The cfg has a few lines dedicatedly kicking pinion in the pot o' gold.

It could be that single text ovelays [like the 'you can play in x seconds' countdown] still show up but they should be harmless and non-functional.

Good.
But I'm wondering why Valve doesn't do anything about the pinion-crap in the first place.
Not sure, i dont mind like 10 second pinion ads, its when people are using 20-30 second pinion ads that play prior to entry or after every game. Thats just flat out obnoxious. I understand keeping servers alive, but any server with 20-30 second pinion ads, especially ones that play after every game, i block.

Or, you know, you could disable HTML MOTDs.

Most servers either kick you or force you to spectate if you disable HTML MOTDs. Since there's a plugin for detecting if the ad isn't played. (or something like that)

Thanks for posting this. It deserves way more views! =)

Alright, is there a verson that lets me see the MOTD, but simply disables the skip-prevention? Basically, I want to avoid the garbage MOTDs while still being able to view the legitamate MOTDs, some of which contain the rules for the server being played on, and stuff like that.

Remove the line that says
cl_disablethemotd 1
and you should be alright.
Also note that the last few lines might hinder some features of certain custom game modes.

Ah, that was simpler than I thought it would be, maybe I should read first. :P

Please note that this way, while you won't miss any 'good' motds, you might also run into some ads.. Pinion however should still be blocked.

Create file at where?
Zyroxeon Feb 12, 2013 @ 2:08am
Easier way:

Download this: https://github.com/CasualX/SourceProtect
Put protect.cfg in the cfg folder in tf < team fortress 2
Open Notepad
Type in "exec protect.cfg" without the ""s.
Save as autoexec.cfg and all files intead of .txt.
Put in cfg folder.

PROFIT
