There's no good reason not to use the Amputator/Solemn Vow/Ubersaw* etc. over the default; that thing could use an update.

*Except in medieval mode where the Ubersaw is a direct downgrade.

Not exactly, Valve isn't going to update the stock weapons that much, because "Stock weapons" are supposed to be at a constant medium, this means the bonesaw with never be better, or worst than any other weapon statistic wise. Also the bonesaw has great defensive capabilities, as you get more health regen (unless you are using the medieval medic set)

True, there's no reason to use the Shovel over the Escape Plan. You can just switch to another weapon if you want a medic to heal you.

I think you might be confusing it for the Syringe Gun, because as far as I know, the Bonesaw has no effect on health regeneration. The Blutsauger is the weapon that decreases your health regeneration.

I have a strange bonesaw so I use it all the time, same with the Syringe Gun and the shovel. I also Battle Medic so the Ubersaw sometimes gets in the way, so I'd only ever use the Amputator maybe. I just get a lot of satisfaction with killing people with stock weapons for some reason, so I have a lot of strange stocks :3

It does make you an easier target though. While stat based it is a direct upgrade, the inability to move is a minus.

It IS a direct upgrade, simply because the taunt takes the same amount of time, and has only one difference: Health regen to allies. No-one is forcing you to use the taunt to heal, not when you have a ghostbuster-style healgun in your secondary slot, or maybe a heal/hurt crossbow in your primary slot.

The Bonesaw just needs to grant the wearer the ability to see a healing target's ammo pool like you do in MvM.

The medic is the only class that has melee weapons that are direct upgrades such as the amputater and solemn vow, so its impractical to use the default bonesaw

Pure buffs could at least have a downgrade. For instanse, increased taunt duration for Amputator (without increasing total healing) and slight health reduction for Solemn Vow.
