Thoughts on the expiring hats?

As most of you may know, the 9 beautiful hats introduced during the "Sniper vs. Spy" update are being retired.

What do you think about the prices? Will they drop or rise?

I think the prices will go back to the norm. after a while... Even though they ARE retiring, they are still the most common hats. Also Valved mentioned that you will be able to unbox them in crates, even after they retire.

What do you think about weapons from the past? Will they be retiring also?

Some people I know think that the weapons from the "Sniper vs. Spy" update will be retired along with the hats. I thought this was a dull-witted remark. If weapons would retire, people who started playing TF2 or who are richer in TF2 will have an "Advantage" while playing TF2, Valve was smart with the balance of weapons. If anybody has noticed, being richer or being a veteran player of TF2 will not give you an advantage. If Valve was kind enough to balance this for new to old players, then the "Sniper vs. Spy" weapons (Cloak n' dagger, Dead ringer, Ambassador, Huntsman, Jarate, Razorback) won't retire.

What's your favorite retiring hat?

Easy question, are you a Jimi hendrix fan and you go with the Demoman's fro? Do you bat people's heads in while wearing the Batter's helmet? I can't decide which one if my favorite hat, I like the Soldier's stash, the Pyro's beanie and the Prussian pickelhaube.

if anything the vintage versions (if avaliable) will be the version of the retiring hats to increase in price. in this case the original 9 are old as virtual dirt and just as abundant at least the normal,uncraftable,crafted versions. if this update was any indication of anything its that player who are in it for the profit or to collect (my case) should pick up hats that have a vintage quality before they retire if they care for that kind of thing (i do) since they are the one most likely to surge in price (right?). no way will weapons ever retire after so much nerfing and balacing it wouldnt make sense to just retire weapons even though most weapons are entirely too abundant. too me its no contest the fancy fedora is my favorite hat of the original 9, even if you dont appreciate spy or play that class often it is a good looking hat and one that i wouldnt mind owning in real life (although i would look douchy in it sadly ;_; ) plus spy wears it so well.

I agree with you, it is likely that it is meant to get people to collect the vintage variants. And I do agree with you, the Fedora is a very nice hat, but for a hat to hit my favorites it has to be for a class I actually play :)

same here i admire the spys fedora but i main scout and i love batting heads in with my bat while wearing that batters helm personally because i think it makes it a bit more humiliating for snipers to be killed by anyone running around in a bright red hat i mean what could be a more clearly contrasted target in any map? its the cherry any sniper should be able to hit from far away.

the prices are going to rise no matter what you do. In the trading community, they do not care if there are 8 million of a certain kind of hat in unique quality, the term "retired" makes the price go up.

I honestly don't give a ♥♥♥♥.
Like most people did before Valve announced the retirement of the first 9 hats.

They are virtual hats, they are common as hell (100k Fedoras are really more than enough, I don't want to get one if I decide to craft my metal into a hat or misc), and there are hats that look better anyway.

About prices: Screw that, we have too many of those hats, I already have all 9 in vintage quality and if they ever do it with a hat I don't have, then I'll get one via TF2WH.

Retiring weapons: Yeah, why not, but they should do that to the most common ones, because I'm sick of only finding Cabers and Originals.

Favorite retired hat: Demo's 'fro. Goes well with the Bearded Bombarder.

I still see some random person selling dirties for 1 reclaimed. Some said they don't care.

But anyway TF2 Trading Market will blow up and i'll be happy with it.
For now i'll just craft stuff and ignore this silly update.

I don`t think either should go up, vintage has already been retired (technically) also what Tim tensen said, they are way too common anyways.

Yeah... I know... I can imagine the price of the crates that the hats are in will skyrocket also.

The hats are over rated and there are way too many of them out there for them to even go up in price. The only way these will EVER rise in price is if players start using them to craft other hats or even deleting them, thus making them more rare than they are now (They arent rare at all right now). The only hats that will rise will be the unusual/vint/gen versions.

I dont like any of the hats other than the soldiers stash, out of all 9 hats removed i think thats the only good one out of them.

Deleting the hats won`t matter, they will still be uncrateable even AFTER they retire.
