Red-Tape Recorder is still buggy.
The nerf that valve tried to do on it only affected how fast it downgrades teleporters. It still near-instantly downgrades dispensers and sentries to level one. On teleporters it takes about three seconds per downgrade. It is pretty much pointless to try to do anything against a spy with this broken item. FIX IT VALVE

Alright, gonna find that. And yes I did, I just want valve to actually notice that it's broken.

here you go. Specifically, this line: Increased The Red Tape Recorder's downgrade speed from 1.6 seconds to 3.0 seconds. Took me under a minute, all I had to do was go on the official tf2 wiki for the tape recorder and look at the update history, then found the update where they tried to fix it. You seem to not want to search to back up your own claims.

I also sent in a bug report on this thing using the in-game bug reporter. I'm sure other people send in bug reports, too.

At least I did when you asked me to. What was your reason for not believing me? Did you have any reason, or do you just love the red tape recorder so much that you are willing to disbelive anything negative anyone says about it?
I didn't give you links citing my sources at first because I am not a wikipedia article, and this is not some sort of book report or thing for a job, it is a thing on a discussion board for a video game.

At this point, I wouldn't be certain that it's intentional. Teleporter entrances are normally *not* camped by the engineer, so expecting the engineer to proactively spy-check those approaching the entrance is impractical. It may be deliberate that engineers who don't spy-check those approaching their nests before they can sap, however, are penalized.

I spycheck every single teammate I see who isn't firing a weapon or taunting, I check corners periodically, and my sentry still gets one hitted by these kamikaze spies; I have to switch to my primary, which gives them more time to get to my stuff, and then killing the spy takes time. Which may or may not (depending on my sentry's location and where the spy came in and when I noticed him) give me time to kill him before he gets his sapper on my sentry. If he does, in the time it takes to switch to my wrench, my sentry's level 2, and before I can remove it, it's level one. A normal spy would be dead, and my sentry would be back at full health in just three swings of a wrench (two to remove the sapper, one to repair the small amount of damage done in that time.) A good spy would've backstabbed me and then killed my stuff, but at least that takes some skill.
