Family Business for Soldier, Pyro, and Engineer.
I feel like almost no one uses the Family Business, and I think making it available to other classes who use the shotgun would make it more useful. I do realize that it is part of a set for the heavy, but this really shouldn't matter since there are other weapons which are cross class and also part of a class set (reserve shooter).

I am not implying that anything that goes in the secondary slot of a class which defaults to Shotgun should be cross class (buff banner on engineer, righteous bison on the heavy). The Family Business is enough of a legitimately boring side(down)grade to warrant retirement unless there can be new ways to play with it.

I think it's a good looking weapon with a deserved place in the game's arsenal, but I don't think it fits it's set very well. Give the other classes a chance to make use of its extended clip and lower damage output and I think it could become a more popular weapon.

What do you think?

It's already part of the one Heavy set, hence it's name. No, no, NO!

Reserve shooter is part of a soldier set. Your point is moot!

But even then it's not that amazing and would still be a boring (worse than stock?) +/- stats weapon on any other class. It would be better to just fix it's stats into something unique and that awful viewmodel problem it has I think.

I doubt soldier would pick up anything that has a communist emblem on it, but the family business does more damage per mag than the stock one and the look is amazing as it has an acutal stock like a shotgun should, but in any case the demoMAN (not knight) needs new weapons more than pretty much anyone else

I like the view model, idk what you mean?

Also as it is I think it could be a very useful weapon for soldier, engie, or pyro. Back when I used to use the brass beast more often I'd always use the family business, it allowed me to provide covering fire for myself when I needed to retreat or get into position. As it stands I don't think it pairs very well with the tomislav / eviction notice. I when using the eviction notice I always want the steak sandvich, and when using the tomislav I want the GRU's and the normal sandvich.

Soldier does a lot of damage with his rocket launcher and the increased magazine could be useful for finishing off opponents like scouts and medics and snipers. Those classes tend to run all over the place when attacked at close range and the extended clip would help finish them off without pausing.

If the pyro used it with the degreaser it would allow for that much more chip damage to be dealt out to burning opponents. It would make pyro vs pyro battles more interesting, where one pyro might have stronger shots, but the other could dodge until the first needed to reload.

Engineer could benefit from an extended magazine by being able to provide more covering fire for himself when waiting for buildings to build. Also the extended clip + shotgun spread would be useful for hunting spies in hallways and small rooms.

^^
Last time I used it it clipped into the heavy's hand whenever the heavy pumped the weapon, the shells flew out the wrong side of the weapon and the reload itself blocked half of my view (personal preference of course for the latter :p). I agree it's good for covering-fire for something like the Brass Beast or Natascha as they're not practical to spin up all the time.

But I myself rarely run out of shotgun shells as any class but engineer and with his amazing unlocks (pomson or wrangler spychecking is already brutal to cloaked spies) I doubt I'd use the Family Business over them, especially considering I could just use the widowmaker instead to better effect.

Chip damage as a pyro perhaps, though I personally would prefer more reliable damage if I'm not using one of the flare guns and with a "weak" shotgun secondary I'd almost have to use the axtinguisher to compensate. Might be a good distraction tool in a pinch, though.

But all things considered this is down to personal preference, it might be a good idea on some classes. I just can't relate as with my playstyle I rarely run dry on shells unless I've over extended or swarmed by lots of scouts, in which case I'm usually dead regardless.

Ent-moot, you mean? OHHONHONHON!
I have no idea where I was going with that joke.
In all seriousness, however, I see little reason that this crappyaverage weapon should be put on any other class. Yes, it can work wonders with crit boosts (KGB comes to mind, especially), but I don't see it directly benefiting any other class. The non-Gunslinger Engineer has a relatively low lifespan and generally has to rely on his Sentry to deal damage. If he gets off six hits with the Family Business and gets killed, the enemy is less damaged than if they had gotten hit with the Shotgun, and the two extra shots go to waste. Besides, generally Engineer relies on his Sentry, and when the Sentry is damaged, you can't exactly repair the Sentry by shooting it with the Family Business. Besides, quite a few Engineers prefer to use other choices, such as the Frontier Justice and Widowmaker, which store crits and don't require reload, respectively. The Soldier has several support options for his team, and the Family Business deprives them of these options, and there is still the Righteous Bison and the Reserve Shooter, which might be more favorable for some. The Pyro has several Flare Guns, as well as the Reserve Shooter and Shotgun, most of which can easily deal more damage. I suppose one could consider it viable, as the Flamethrower's damage can offset the damage reduction on the Family Business. At the end of the day, it relies on personal preference. Would you prefer two more shots, or more damage? Or would you rather take a third option and use a Flare Gun/Shotgun that gives you metal on hit/Infallible Aether Oscillator/etc.?

Hmm how about the Widowmaker as Heavy secondary, using minigun ammo instead of metal?
+ Deus Specs
+ Purity Fist
+ Company Man
Hoovy Revolution!

I can't say this shouldn't be tried out, if someone out there wants to test this in tf2 beta, who am i to stop them?
however I do have a few misgivings about this idea, and they are as follows:
the fact that he can be 2 shot killed by most classes is the reason the Widowmaker works for engie. giving it to the heavy would be ridiculous because accuracy would matter less because he wouldn't be constantly worrying about getting blown away. additionally the chaingun ammo is less precious than the metal used to construct a sentry or dispenser or teleporter. the engie takes a bigger risk by travelling to get ammo and metal, the heavy is made to run around the battlefield willie nillie.

basically i feel like the widowmaker is very specifically taylored to the engineer while the family business is just a very bland sidegrade of the shotgun.

I think it's a good idea. Being able to lay down more fire over a longer period of time can be very helpful as some of the more aggressive classes like soldier or pyro. In the case of soldier (who is my main class) i can imagine the 2 extra shot would keep me in battle longer and help me take out fleeing enemies. As for pyro, i can also see the same coming into play; taking out fleeing enemies. the 2 extra shots would come in handy more than you may think. sure they do less damage, but the whole clip does more damage than a whole clip of the regular shotty. I don't think, however, that the family business would be so well suited for someone like engie. The engineer has plenty of more sentry-oriented shottguns that would probably help him out more than 2 extra shots.

if he believes in the idea... I mean, this is the only thread I've seen suggesting this.
