Most hats in the store are worth about $5 or more right? And keys are only $2.50 but far more valueable in the economy, so wouldn't that mean you could buy a key advertise a trade for the hat you want, have the guy you traded with feel like they scammed you, and still save money?

Or you could get the key, sell it for 3 refined, and trade each refined for a craft hat you want because hats aren't worth crap anymore, and you have 3 hats you wanted for the same price.

This. And even then you could just buy a key from the market for 50 cents cheaper.

chances are very likely whatever hat you can buy in store for $5, you can buy in a trade server for a rec or a ref. if your paying a key for a hat, im pretty sure you come out losing unless its some rare hat which would cost lot more.

prices in store dont have much to do with trading prices. i also never got that how it can be that people want 2 keys for an item that is 3$ in store since a key is 2,50 in store. it is bc a key, dont know why or how, isnt worth $2,50 in trading.
