is degreaser overpowered?
this is a question Ive been asking myself for a long while now and I believe it to be so. why? because with the degreaser, there is no real reason to use the stock flamethrower. IMO the regular flamethrower is a well balanced weapon, but the degreasers downsides are nothing compared to the upsides.

theres also that thing degreaser users like to call "skill". I believe from experience ever since I started playing pyro, Ive noticed that its easier to get kills with the degreaser and some other autocrit weapon than it is to get kills with a backburner.

an added weapon should always have situational benefits over stock, and an equal amount of downsides. like how the soldier is well balanced. an added weapon should never be better at nearly everything compared to the stock with minimal downsides.

just my opinion, whats your takes?

Weird enough, i only use degreaser because i feel more comfortable ariblasting with it and faster switch is just to finish enemies off.

And no, i stopped using the Degreaser + Reserve Shooter + Axtinguisher combo. It's broken as hell. It shouldn't stack like Crit-a-cola and Baby Face's Blaster. I just wonder why they decided to add it on the Pyro. It was made to be a Soldier secondary.
And no, i don't use the puff sting which totally go derping around wasting my life and half of my flamethrower's ammo airblasting a single person on a wall. (I only airblast spam on dead ringer's users with caution)
Degreaser's fire is also fine knowing that there's still afterburn.

It's nice seeing the faster switch being implemented but i do not really appreciate all the "skill" talk with this weapon. There are different playstyles, that's what should be considered.
Overall, i don't think Degreaser lonely is overpowered. Sure it can be a deadly motherhumper with all classes except pyro (ah yes, thanks Reserve shooter for it.)
It's just the loadout that bothers me.

The fire damage is lower than normal so no, unless you are staying with your person that you are burning.

The Degreaser is not Overpowered
there are 2 downsides and only 1 upside, a damage penalty on both afterburn and base damage is not overpowered

It's not the degreaser which is OP, the guns which a pyro uses in conjunction with the degreaser become OP. I don't even consider to Puff 'n Sting if I don't have a degreaser, or switch to my shotgun after I ignit enemies. If the switch speed was taken away, Puffing would still be viable, but more situation with more planning involved rather than your regular "Wololo, corner puff and SMACK!" strategy.

Frankly, it's a joke to me thanks to the crippling afterburn, but at least it compensates for the Pyro's lack of mobility by giving him a reason to use other weapons. I use it because of the Gas Jockey speed bonus. And because 2fast4you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF9CS3L_ezw

It only seems powerful to noobs who get killed by a degreaser+shotgun combo

I personally hate it when I see a pyro running around with that combo ALL THE TIME. It gets kind of annoying after a while when the crit wh*** all the time, it is so over used,of the and it is the only type of pyro I see now pretty much.
When I play Pyro, I usually use Stock Flamethrower, Stock Shotgun, and Maul, since I have a flamethrower that has good afterburn, so it can kill spies a little better if they manage to get away, or for it I go into an area and die I have a better chance of killing someone with the afterburn. The Shotgun does good damage to ALL classes and I find the bigger clip size more important than the mini-crits Reserve Shooter. And the Maul (Reskin of Homewrecker), really helps the Engies. Or I usually run around with Rainblower, Stock Shotgun, and Lollichop, since it is fun to kill people with rainbows and lollipops.
Really though, I just wish that there would be more variety in the pyros I see, rather than seeing just only the Degreaser+Reserve Shooter/Flare Gun+Axtinguisher Pyro. The PHLOGISTINATOR is less annoying than the crit wh*** setup, since in my mind. it takes a little more by at least doing some regular damage first before getting a lot of crits, rather than having a 195 crit in your pocket all the time that you can pull it in pretty much an instant. Just my 2 cents though.

it's not overpowered, it's just stupid.

It's not overpowered but it made playing Pyro extremely easy. Personally Pyro was one of the first classes in TF2 I picked up and learned. I felt proud for some of the things I could accomplish and knowing that the majority of the kills I had gotten were earned. Now with the Degreaser most of what you've acquired and learned as Pyro can easily be skipped for most players by using the degreaser. It's so easy to get kills with it in any situation and still remains better then the other flamethrowers in almost every situation. Instead of settings someone on fire and strafing them to burn them you just tap your mouse to ignite them and switch to your melee. Quick and more reliable then using the backburner for example but that's another problem of its own.

While it's not Overpowered I wouldn't care if it got nerfed into oblivion.

Seriously none of the pyro's weapons are OP and the class itself is not OP. If You're getting owned by a pyro you're doing something wrong.
If a pyro is dominating you because they are teaming up with someone (even another pyro) then they're doing it right.

for those who dont know ; the degreasers damage has always been the same, those who are saying it has 2 downsides are badly misinformed, in the pyromania update (i think it was that update) the stock flamer got buffed by +10%damage so valve had to make the other flamers match that buff (took away backburners +10%, added degreaser and philog's -10%)
the degreaser is overpowered in my opinion, you are trading a 3rd of your afterburn (which isn't even that important) for the ability to basically instakill anyone, and people might say "oh well you have to have axetinguisher for that" and to which i respond, who doesn't, the only reason not to use it is for the polycount set
