How to stop idling
As I was browsing the discussions, a thought dawned upon me, a simple solution to the "issue" of idling. Simply make it so when the "You found an item!" screen pops up, force the person to press "OK" before the item drop timer resets and they can find anything else.

Opinions?

I still find items even if the screen is up.

I know, that's why it was a suggestion to add that it would only reset once the person presses ok.

Instaspawn servers.
Or other servers where you don't actually get to 'see' the drops for a while. Then people complains about not receiving drops because they needed to push a button they couldn't get to see while they were playing.
In the meantime idlers will just find a way to 'auto-click' the message.

Idling cannot be stopped. Any system is going to be farmed and exploited. The drop cap does the best from it, by putting a limit at how profitable the system is, idling or not.

Although the best option i saw to twart idlers was to make every drop 'Double'
Every drop, you get two drops, but you have to manually choose which one you keep.

That sounds like a fantastic idea i hate idlers. They take away from their team from their own benefit

If you mean people who just AFK in spawn on normal servers - not idling/item farming ones - most servers have auto-kick for inactivity (ie not moving in 30 seconds.)

I had an idea for this... how about some sort of in-game 'captcha' that you have to complete every week.

For example, each week everyone has to complete a short, randomly generated maze with a few obstacles (ie, things to jump and crouch under). When you get to the end, you are eligible to get your item drops.

Or you join a level and on a wall is a sequence of numbers with only certain ones highlighted and buttons underneath and you have to punch the correct ones in. (or stand on a certain platform that matches the one on the wall etc)

Anyway, the whole point is to require every account to do something a bot could not do and require some human interaction to complete a puzzle. It would need to be something that is randomly generated so bots are not created to complete them as well. It would have to be something short and simple though as not to annoy everyone.

Just a thought anyway...

Only enable drops on official Valve maps, and hold them until you win a round while you're out of your spawn room.

So people who play custom maps can't get items?

Or maybe award items on round end?
