Am i the only one who sees a problem with Stock Melee?
It seems to me that Valve simply does not care that the most underpowered weapon in the game is something you have to put up with if you are new to TF2. Personally wish that they made an update designed specifically to fix the stock melees.

At the very least, they could make the stocks reskins of the most commonly used unlocks as a temporary fix.

It's a problem, yes, but at this point I think Valve has just given up on melee balance.

I really think the Amputator and Third Degree need no random critical hits, and I'd kind of like to see the Amputator get a bleed effect on hit so it has an active ability to counter an active downside. and the Solemn Vow should maybe have a slower firing speed, since it's a stone bust which logically would be much heavier than a bonesaw.

Probably the case, because from what I have seen, over half the people in the game don't even use it. (Pyros are the worst.)

underpowered? how? last time i checked weapons were balanced.
underused? that i can get. then again, if you have flashy reskins of stocks, why use originals?
Tolna 5. des. 2012 kl. 12.44
I sware the original bonesaw crits more often then other mele weapons, same with the Stock Wrench, and Axe.

The Shovel is good for me since I swap my weapons a lot and it keeps me from messing with a medic's targeting (lots of people use that autotarget feature I see.)

The Bottle Crits randomly as upposed to the swords

The Bat, doesn't take 10 hp or reduce your hp if you accidently press space once, as well as simply using a bat, plus who uses mele on the scout anyway outside of the fish or fan o war?

The spy's stock is the best of the set

The sniper's has no downside compared to others

That's what I think balances em out. But a lot of that could just be a fluke or dumb luck.

The downside to melee is that you have to get close. If there's another Scout and we are just whittling away at each other's HP I will rush in and slap him with the melee. If someone rushes you with a melee weapon you should just shoot them. If a Medic rushes you (Medic has a high crit rate plus they build crit rate based on the healing target's damage) just run/ shoot him from afar. If a Spy rushes you don't let him since a spy spamming the knife can easily get a backstab. Also, the scout can get 105 damage in one hit if his melee crits which makes it deadlier than most due to it's high swing rate and heavy's crit fists can one hit KO most classes. If anything, Melee is OP.

Melee weapons all share the same crit rate

-no upsides
-no downsides
Deal with it. Wait for some drops.

Downsides actually are negligible.

As it stands, the first thing a free to player should do is to buy melee weapons as their premium token.

This is literally the only pay to win element in TF2.

Fixed for you free of charge :). Don't mention it my friend.

Honestly I don't think that the Amputator, Solemn Vow, or Third Degree are OP at all. In fact, they are not much different from regular stock melees. For example, the Amputator is the same as the bonesaw but has a a healing taunt, but this is really only situational and leaves you open for fire. The Solemn Vow let's you see enemy health, but the Medic isn't meant to fight other classes as much as others, so it isn't very OP. The Third Degree is very stituational as well (Sometimes Medic's aren't even playing) and would you really walk up to a Heavy and try to whack them with the axe. It only does 65 damage anyway, so it's not always very helpful anyway. That's why I think there should be upgrades, because they're not that great anyway.

I also, find many stock melees to be boring to use, since the Soldier's, Pyro's, Demoman's, Heavy, Medic, and Sniper are all the same and have nothing to them. Therefore, I beleive that Valve is trying to phase out all of the stock melee weapons. However, (almost) all of the stock primary and secondary weapons are different, so therefore there are no "upgraded' versions of them.

Because punishing impatient people who can't wait to find or craft the item they want so bad is totally related to balance...
I feel like I missed something, because I don't get that logic.

I wasn't saying that they were OP, just that they needed some sort of downside. Just because an upside is situational doesn't make the weapon any less of a direct upgrade.

OP, please tell me how stock melee weapons are underpowered, or in other words, how non-stocks are overpowered.

It's simple, OP gets dominated by people who don't use stock melee.
