Monitor loses connection and PC locks up when playing TF2
So, yeah, I've been having this issue the past few days where I'll be playing some TF2 when the screen will suddenly go black and start searching for a connection. The sound will also suddenly stop playing. Oddly enough, when this happens, the computer's fans work at a surprisingly high speed, much higher than they usually do when playing TF2.

This happens about once a day and seems to only happen when playing TF2 for a good couple hours.

Here's my PC specs.

M/B - ASROCK Z75 PRO3 Z75 LGA1155
Video Card - XFX AMD Radeon 7850 1GB
PSU - ROSEWILL | HIVE-550 550W
CPU - INTEL CORE I5 3570K 3.4GHz
RAM - 2x 4GB CRUCIAL Memory (8GB)
HDD - WD 1TB 7K 64M SATAIII
Monitor (just in case it is something wrong with the monitor, though I doubt it) - ACER LED 21.5" 5 MS

Checked through the Event Logs, nothing in particular. Any help?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me.
Are you getting this on any other graphics-intensive games?

From what I can see, it only seems to happen to TF2, and not other games, even games more graphically intensive like Skyrim.

I just recently started having the same problem. This is very curious. Did you ever figure it out?

It doesn't happen to me anymore, but what I suspect is that the settings are set so that the game's refresh rate is different from your monitor's; this has occured when I boot up Civilization V sometimes. As for the locking up, I'm not really sure what that could be.

Another possibility is that your PSU is dying. I was a bit stupid a little while back and tried to overclock my CPU without looking at documentation. Even after setting it back, I think it permenantly damaged it, because I've been having some issues that appear heavily connected to PSU damage.

Oh, thanks for the response! The refresh rate idea is interesting and more likely to be my issue, as I have never overclocked my computer, but I will investigate my PSU's health as well. Thanks a lot!

Woah. Woah. Woah. I'm having this same problem - it's happening faster for me though, about every end of round in TF2.

I wish I could help you. I lose connection to my monitor within a minute or two after joining any tf2 match, and I know it's not because of my screen refresh rate (I set tf2 to run at 60 hertz like my monitor expects) and it's not because of hardware failure (I downloaded a hardware-monitoring program and everything is running perfectly while tf2 is open).
