Whats wrong with this update!
so i converted my files and it took a while but made it through. then it started downloading the actual update. it got to about 25% before pausing itself. whenever i try to unpause it, it continues for a second before pausing again with a pop-up saying "An error occurred when updating Team Fortress 2 (disk write error)" I've tried quitting steam, moving to a different wifi, and even restarting my computer but nothing has worked. WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN!

Disk write error = your hdd is full or your hdd has error or your cable.

Disk write error I presume would most likely mean you're out of disk space, some write-protected files are in the way, hardware failure, etc. Could it be any of those?

Disk and HDD here means your hard drive, where all your files on your computer is.

actually my "team fortress" folder seems to have disapeared from my "nerniply" folder but if I go to the "downloading" folder, it has the 440 patch and a folder called "440" with all the team fortress 2 stuff in it

alright thanks I'll make sure to do that as soon as I can. right now though im stuck with my mac and I dont know whats wrong with this update or how to fix it. I started repeatedly pressing resume on the update a while ago and every once in a while it will download about 28 KB of the update. the most i've gotten so far in one go is 31.4 KB. should I just keep trying that?

If you want some advice (and not having me bashing apple here is what i reccomend. Uninstall some games you dont play that much or programs you dont really need it should free up some hardrive space for you to finish the steam update. because your problem is that you dont have enough hard drive space.

I have tons of free space, still get the same error

I fixed the problem yall! if you go into the steamapps folder you will find a folder called "downloading". delete it. this will restart the update when you reopen TF2 but as long as you dont pause it mid update it will continue without stopping. I believe that is the reason this problem occurred, I kept pausing and resuming the download. avoid messing with it and you should be fine. THANKS EVERYONE!

According to nerniply I could make out an alternative.

[blabla, editorial]In my case I tried to download GTA4 and I do own the DVD-Version as well. So downloading 15GB? Hell, no! :) So I copied my DVD-Version into the Steam-folder, deleted my cache and started my update again.[/blabla]

Had enough disc-space, am pretty sure my HDD is healthy, maybe with some bad sectors but who cares. So I deleted a few small, quick to update files in my downloading\GTA - mainfolder, cleared the cache one more time, started the download one more time and it worked.

Hopefully, your error-analysis will go as fine as mine did! Good luck! :)
