Can you get a virus from custom files from a server?
I have been playing TF2 for years and I have never encountered this, but out of sudden virus paranoia and curiosity, could this actually happen? This also applies to other source games.

I imagine it's possible, but I've never seen it happen. You're most likely safe.

I don't think any custom files that end up getting downloaded are executable, pretty sure they're all images and models and files that get interpreted by the engine. If so it's technically possible if you find some exploit that allows you to run those files as executables and not as files, but I doubt there'd be any exploit like that in tf2 that's been found but unused and unpatched for so long.

Highly doubt it. I mean servers dont roll like that, they wouldent give their players viruses deffiantly in the downloadable file form. I mean its like thinking Steam or TF2 will give you viruses. Its just bad for customers and player support. Plus if a server finds out a way to do this Im pretty sure you can report it and Valve could take it down.
