TF2 large install?
Steam said that TF2 requires 6gb to install but in downloads it says 12gigs! Is this right?

Yes, the 6gb install is a lie.

It was probably 6gb when it first came out or somewhere near that time.

I recommend that you just avoid TF2. The game has devolved into a narcissistic circle jerk for 40-something neckbeards who have invested enough money to buy a new car into their virtual backpacks to make up for their excruciatingly inadequate sex organs.

are you talking about yourself? caz i see you got 14 painted Billycocks, a un modest hat and lots of other high paying items.

If you think $600 worth of items is so impressive, you're poor. I'm talking about the people with $10,000+ in their backpacks. Regardless, that is how I support Valve and their F2P games, by opening crates and buying keys to trade with. It's become such a bad game because it revolves around taking our money rather than making a fun game that's worth playing. I had to uninstall it recently after they added Reddit promos which I consider to be indirectly supporting pedophiles and child pornography. I was so disgusted I had to remove the game from my hard drive.

VAC Ban is from 2007 for Counter-Strike 1.6, I used a multihack to troll servers with speedhacks and knifehacks. Worth it.

Oh please, you should cut off your broadband since unfiltered internet supplied by isps is indirectly supporting pedophiles and child pornography, give me a break..your reasoning is seriously flawed.

6gigs worth of hat models!! Insane waste of space.

Valve needs to move their hats into a separate download.

lol. That's not what he meant. It was a joke xD

Anyways, i Think its 12 Gb equals to:

6Gb = The core game
6Gb = Updates, patches, and bug fixes.

You "had to"? Did someone force you to? Did the clouds part and a voice from above tell you to? No, it didn't. You simply decided to throw a childish hissy-fit over some entirely inconsequential digital hat-shaped pixels.... which are connected to an April Fool's joke, for cripe's sake.

It's 12.2 GB right now, but once TF2 is upgraded to the upcoming Steampipe thing which younger Valve games (and the TF2 Beta) are already using, the game installation is supposed to actually take up less space on your hard drive.

Source engine games on SteamPipe

What is SteamPipe and why do I care?
General questions
Q. What’s happening?

We are upgrading TF2, DoD:S, CS:S, and HL2:MP to be delivered through SteamPipe, Steam’s new content distribution. This will change how the game is downloaded, and how it is stored on your computer. The benefits to players are:

Faster and smoother downloads
Faster game boot times and map load times
Easier distribution, installation, and management of mods
Smoother dedicated server distribution and update rollover

Q. Do I need to do anything?

Probably not. A few groups of users might need to take special action:

Authors and users of client-side mods (for example, those that require you to download a .zip and extract it into your installation folder) will want to switch to the new system for distributing and installing these mods.

Users who make custom versions of game files (custom models, custom HUDs, etc) will need to make some simple changes in order to continue using those customizations.

Gameserver operators will need to switch to the new download tool, Steamcmd, and be aware of how the changes to the filesystem affect any customizations they have made. (Please see the separate FAQ for gameserver operators.)
(...snip the rest...)
