Is Backburner overpowered?
So It has been a long time since Valve added the Backburner to Team Fortress 2.Well, they just made a terrible mistake, pyros have been using it like an owning machine.
Properties of Backburner
--------------------------------------
-Crits from Behind
-+50% airblast cost
So how is this an owning machine?Well, just look at that really huge advantage and that very minor disadvantage. New players do not know how to airblast properly,so that disadvantage doesn't mind them. That advantage however,is too over powered, its as good as stabbing people on the back with a spy. Even worse, you get crits almost every time, even if youre standing face to face with the somebody(due to the backburner's mechanics).
So people, is the Backbuner overpowered?

not really the philog is much better the backburner requires to much stealth to be really effective plus the philog actully can crit tanks in mvm

It's not quite as bad as it was. In its released state, it gave +50 max health, gave crits from behind, and its only disadvantage was (IIRC) that it couldn't airblast at all. In the July 29th, 2008 patch, the health boost was thankfully removed, but then, in the 119th update, it got a 20% damage boost. Thankfully, in the May 19th, 2010 patch, this boost was reduced to 15%, and then, in the Hatless Update, it (in effect) became the Backburner we know today, with back-attack crits, increased airblast cost, and a 10% damage bonus. While the damage bonus was TECHNICALLY removed, all Flamethrowers had their damage increased by 10%, which essentially meant the Backburner had the same damage, with the only difference being that the stock Flamethrower and Rainblower did the same damage as it. So, while it might be annoying today, it used to be far, FAR worse. It also appears to be unable to roll for random crits, so that's a plus.

The problem with the backburner is that fire scares people,so if you catch on fire, you run away, giving the pyro crits.
They should at least nerf the backburner so the it gives mini crits instead of crits.

Well, the Backburner is used for ambushing players, which is what the Pyro was supposed to do when TF2 first came out. It doesn't need mini-crits because it already has a wonky hit detection, and besides, trying to use the Backburner is harder than just having an instantkill backstab.

There's a reason nobody uses the Backburner in competitive. Unreliable back crits are not a good enough upside to exchange for taking up 1/4 of your ammo reserve for one airblast.

Bad players don't know how to aim with the Rocket Launcher. Does this make the Liberty Launcher overpowered? The answer is should be no. The same would apply to your point. It's also not hard to airblast at all. If they aren't capable of pressing M2, they shouldn't be a threat to you at all. The most that they could do is rush towards you. The advantage is hardly that great when you consider how the Backburner works. A pyro can't automatically replace a spy. Until the pyro gets great mobility, the Backburner is still limited in its use. The pyro has no easy options of ambushing the enemy. The spy has his watches, but the pyro doesn't have any options. People also seem to say that the Backburner has a rather small crit range. It's rare to see someone actually say that the range is large.

Are you saying we should nerf something that bad players can't deal with? If we do, the game would be different because some people are just imcompetent. Nobody fears a Backburner pyro at all. If there was someone who tries to run for whatever reason, they deserved to get killed. There's also the option of running backwards. You will move slower, but you can shoot the pyro and kill him while you're moving. Changing the crits into mini crits would make the Backburner even worse than it already is.

The Backburner was nerfed when they buffed the stock Flamethrower. The BB used to do more damage than the stock Flamethrower, but then they gave that a boost to make it do as much damage as the Backburner. As for the crits from behind, people are just butthurt that they get killed because they were too stupid to do an about-face to check behind them every so often.

because in comp people travel in packs, protecting the medic. Theyre not a wandering class.

Bullsquid.
The crit mechanic only accepts straight from behind with not more than 45° deviation. That is not exactly a "huge advantage" considering it is on a class as mobile as the Engineer.
And you are calling an airblast capability of 3 airblasts a "minor downside"?

I think the Backburner is slightly unbalanced, but not so much that it needs to get a serious nerf right away. I'm fine with it, honestly.

Do u want to know what's the only overpowered weapon of TF2?
Beggar's Bazooka.
That thing is so OP, if u launch 1 rocket at once its 50% faster then the others rocket launcher, pyros can't even reflect those rockets and u kill someone with it in less then 3 seconds
Oh sure, and effectively giving up the ability to rocket jump, not being able to hit anything at longer ranges, and having to reload EVERY TIME you want to fire one rocket, let's totally ignore those. It might be a mindless weapon, but it's not overpowered at all.

No it is not overpowered, it teaches players that they need to work together and be situationally aware of their surroundings. What's next, are you going to say that the Axestinguisher is overpowered?

YES, the backburner is a good choice for beginning players and YES, noobs using the backburner have an advantage over those who use stock/degreaser. However, skilled players can be way more effective with the drgreaser/stock, so NO, the backburner shouldn't be nerfed in my opinion. I used to think the phlogistinator was the best flamethrower, nowadays I just laugh my ass off when I see a phlog pyro outside MvM.
Why would you nerf a weapons which most good players don't even consider to be a option?

It is not very good though in drawn out combat. The beggars is for ambushes because you have to reload every time you want to shoot and even more so if you want to shoot 3 rockets. Also, the spread of the projectiles makes it harder to take out medium to long range targets. You are at a disadvantage when ambushed or when you are attacked by surprise because you have to either reload a rocket(that might miss because of spread) or switch weapons to combat the attacker.
Overall it is a poor choice of weaponry in my opinion. It is good for specific situations but lacks the reliability of the other rocket launchers.

Back to the BackBurner. It has a 45degree crit radius so it is hard to get crits unless you ambush someone. More often then not the person who is being burned will attack you instead of running away. Backpedaling while shooting is a good way to get a pyro away, this leaving you back protected and will allow you to kill the pyro. If you are within flamethrower range as any class but scout you will have next to no chance of escaping without killing the pyro. The increased airblast cost is excruciating for good pyros who know how to use the flamethrower to it's full potential. Newer players may not know how to airblast well but they might be less experienced in ambushing foes to use the crits.
Major Havoc 2013 年 3 月 19 日 下午 2:14
The cost of fuel for an airblast with the Backburner is exactly why I like to use the Manmelter to extinguish my team mates. Plus the Manmelter gains crit shots that way, and 90 damage is nothing to sneeze at. The Manmelter is also a natural weapon to use with the Phlogistinator since the Phlogistinator has no airblast.
