All Tux's Made After 03/01 Need To Be Deleted
I am incredibly disappointed that Tux is still available well after the 1st of March. The number of Tux's in the system as of this writing is well over 42,000 (according to backpack.tf's item stats) although there should have been no more than around 25,000 or so. Every Tux created after the 1st needs to be deleted immediately from the system, and Tux should be made tradable. The fact that he has not, shows a clear disrespect for Linux users and the TF2 community as a whole.

Earbuds were not open-ended like this. They were unable to be attained on the hour they were said to become unavailable. Since the time that Tux was supposed to stop being able to be gotten, there have been no less than 3 patches to TF2 which should have included an update to stop him from dropping or to be made tradable, but neither has occurred. One can only assume at this point, that this is deliberate and Tux is being positioned to be worthless.

It enrages me that the early adopters of Tux are being treated this way. Users who have the knowledge to have been able to get him in the first place; the users who possess a greater understanding of multiple operating systems, as well as computers in general, should be rewarded for that. Why then are we being robbed of an item's exclusivity if anyone can get him in perpetuity?

And you can't have it both ways, because you are alienating a huge amount of the user base. Either delete all the Tux's made after the first, or open-end Earbuds and make them available to be gotten in perpetuity as well.

Yes, they did. They explicity said "This item will become unavailable after Mar 01, 2012 24:00:00"

Ahem, gentlemen.

Why are you posting the link to buds? To show that it was originally a 4 day window to get them, and then they extended it? Tux was given the same amount of total time; more than half a month. He is now going well past the original date.
i agree. First off, it decreses the value of them, second off, its like someone having a birthday for two months
I disagree, I think its great that you can still obtain them, why must something be closed off just cause its not opening day anymore, why can't everyone who wants one get one its not like it devalue the ones people already have if they just keep them none-tradeable.

Do you feel the same way about Buds? Bills? Any other item of signifigant rarity or value? Should we still be able to just get those also? Like I said, you can't have it both ways. All other items of this type (which have subsequently gone on to be come a de facto currency standard in TF2) had a strict limit on getting them.
if your going to make an item limited and impose a timeframe on it, that deadline should be acurate.

its like those electronics stores that are always "going out of buisness"... lol
Mann Co. Cap was only supposed to be a limited time offer as was the L4D2 promo.

This Tux business can be chalked up to either "Valve time" or "they just don't care."
Why? Personally I think the Linux item should be like Linux itself, free.

Why exactly does something HAVE to be rare and exclusive if it's a promo? I mean ya do bring up a point about the macs, but then again, macs are pretty pricey, and it's typically a lot harder to get that OS then Linux. Personally people take promo's waaaaay to seriously.

It's simply a badge that says "I play on a Linux". I don't see why it has to be some brand new currency because it's an OS promo.

Word up. Ubuntu doesn't follow the linux/gnu philosophy 100%, but it's the most popular distro out there and it seems ethically proper for Tux to be free. Even if he is strapped to the back of an ex-airborne self-destructive soldier.

Too bad many of the people who have the tux don't actually play on linux; they were simply influenced by greed to install an OS, download a game, log on then log off & uninstall the OS.

This is true, and a shame really.

I've heard this argument before; "OSX costs money". Not necessarily. A skilled pc enthusiast with an Intel based chipset can easily install, emulate, or run OSX virtually. What you are suggesting is that people bought a Mac just to play TF2 and the price of Earbuds is reflected because of that. That is fallacy.

Additionally, having a friend who uses or owns a Mac (generally speaking) is easier to find than someone who uses a Linux distro. It is more likely that people had friends who already had a Mac logging them into the game, than people with no technical expertise trying to install it, or going out and buying a Mac.

Now considering the core audience of TF2 players, it is safe to assume that the vast majority have little to no experience with Linux, most likely have few friends with knowledge of the OS and it's various builds, and for people who have no experience in installing operating systems, even considering messing around with Linux is not something they are interested in.

Either way, Earbuds were distributed freely. Just like Tux. And in both cases, it still comes down to the user's technical ability to be able to boot into that OS one way or another. However, the basic difficulty of doing so in Linux is far greater than doing so on a Mac.

tl;dr The price of the operating system does not matter because both items were given out freely.

The real shame is that virtually no other games are supported by the Linux version. The only one that gets priority, apparently, is TF2. There is little reason to run it otherwise.

True, but like I said, it's harder to get Mac then it is Linux (Both are easily done if your Savy) that's true but still....

Why exactly do we "need" to delete all the tuxs after that point? I mean that seems rather extreme. Do they really need to be treated EXACTLY like earbuds?
