Mac OS 10.9 + Mavericks + TF2 = Crashing
Have a pretty high end Mac desktop and I recently upgraded to Mavericks and that was a huge mistake. Never before had any problems with TF2 - now, I cant play for more than 3-4 minutes without it crashing to the desktop - doesnt matter what map I am playing or what resolution I have. Re-installed TF2 - nothing changed - constantly crashing to desktop. Anyone else having this issue?

I am. it usually takes 10 minutes minimum before a crash. sometimes it takes an hour and a half (when i get lucky). That being said, since upgrading to Mavericks I have only closed TF2 intentionally maybe twice. I try to play it daily, to see if the crashes stop, but by the second or third crash of the day i give up.

How long do you play for? I soemtimes get to play for around an hour before it suddenly crashes.

By reinstalling do you mean deleting Local Content and reinstalling TF2 or what?

Nice Necromancing.

I can't even pull up my Screenshots at the moment, so you're lucky.

With my computer, I am playing TF2 then suddenly my audio glitches for a few seconds and my computer restarts. Then a message comes up that says, "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press any key to continue."

I find there are several problems with Valve games and OSX. I recommend trying some of the following:

- Opening in windowed mode
- Putting mat_antialias 1 and mat_phong 0 in your .cfg folder does wonders for general performance and framerate (can look a bit bland if you like things being shiny though)
- Delete local content or verify the game integrity via Steam (right-click the game and select properties)
-Ensure you are connected to a server <140 ping. Although this is generally a server-side issue somehow this can cause hlosx to freak out and crash from time to time.

The big thing is that TF2 will crash from time to time. Perhaps every few hours or once a day, but certainly not every ten minutes
TBH, the crashing became such an often occurrence (especially on the MvM Two Cities tour) that I gave up on Mac play a few months back after posting this, went back to an old PC laptop - crappy framerate and graphics but at least its playable.

The Necromancy is just absurd on this thread.

It might be related, I have this thing on my Windows 8 where TF2 will randomally just shut off my laptop. At first I thought it was overheating it, but I bought a cooling fan and it's still happening when my laptop is only 70ish degrees C.
