Is there a way for the prices of keys to drop?
Hi there, I've seen alot of people making angry threads about the prices of the keys.
My question are, why are the prices of keys rising in terms of metal?
Why can't key/hat prices be stay at a fixed price?
What can we do to stop the prices of keys rising?
Sorry, but I'm really not into trading so I don't know these stuff. I'm just curious.

keys have been 2.49 since the day they came out.

metal has been spittin out of every account for the past 5 years. there's more metal now than people want or know what to do with. its worthless because every account makes them and they're free.

keys will always be the same price.

There's a ton of metal.

Key prices are fixed.

We can't, and if I could, I wouldn't. There's no use in it.

unless the smissmass update introduces something for sinking metal into then no
To make the answer short we keep getting more and metal and hats, while keys don't increase at a major rate at all.

The only ways to stop it are either to get valve to artificially change prices, or get a majority of the community to manipulate prices without anybody making a profit for themselves and messing it up. Neither's very reasonable.

yes. its printing money. more and more and more of it every week and nobody's using it. just trading it for keys.

i would never sell my keys for metal, that's how little value it is at this point.

If Valve made it so 1 out of 200 hats crafted were unusual, what effect would it have on the economy?

NO.
I understand that Valve would never do it, since it would lower the demand for keys, but what if they did?
Would the demand for metal and craft hats increase? Would the generation of unusual effects on crafted hats be undesirable?

add more uses for metal crafting like say special weapon only paints or weapon/hat decals

Now, hear me out. I know this might sound crazy at first.

But, what if keys were made craftable?
Now, this should exclude the themed keys (I.E. Smissmass, Fall and other update themed).
For me personally, the amount of ref to craft keys should be around 10 ref at the most.

Think this is a good idea guys?

Why would valve get rid of the thing making them money in tf2?

And that wouldn't actually fix metal prices going down. It'd just bring keys' monetary value down with it. Which is worse for everyone instead of being good for some bad for some like it is now.

Best way to get metal to go down: give reason a people to use it a lot.

my suggestion has been to rework collectors items. drastically increase the drop rate of the recipes and after you get the first 200 needed, allow the weapon to consume even more.
