Decently is probably not the best.
Sticking to 'spy' or 'sniper' only is generally a bad idea if you're hanging around your average pub, because there are usually too many of both already. But if you're a regular on a server or with a team where most players actually prefer to play other classes, go ahead.
A mainy-main and a secondary main, and end up being 154.681345733333333333[...]% good with your secondary main, while you're only 113.5% good with your mainy-main for some damn reason.
I still don't get how I can out-snipe >4,000 Snipers at 1,200 hours, yet only do decently well with Scout, even though I main Scout, and secondary Snipah.
I'd disagree with that. Gamesense will carry over... but some playstyles mesh better with some personality traits than others, and the mechanical skills vary as well (hitscan vs. slower projectiles, notably; but also movement; playing heavy isn't going to teach you about how to move as a scout).
Some players are more comfortable roaming aggressively and wouldn't find playing a non-Gunslinger Engineer as interesting, and therefore probably would be less likely to invest the time in it to master the class. There are those that are the other way around, and probably shouldn't serve as the tip of the spear. Players with an aggressive death-before-dishonor mentality might be good for pushing, but you don't want them as Medics. ;)
I've gotten exceptionally well at Medic mostly because no one else will play medic. I've given up playing spy and heavy almost entirely.
Spend most of my time as Medic then soldier/demo/pyro/sniper. Spend little time as scout and engineer and virtually none as spy and heavy.
