New Stock Ability Idea for Spy: Scanner
I think the Spy needs a new stock ability so that he can actually spy on the enemy without needing voice communication and mic spamming to tell people where the enemy is (inteded for pubs, probably won't change much for comp).

Scanner (I'm not trying to be creative with the name):
+attack3 briefly outlines enemies so that allies can see them wherever they are (even through walls. Allies can also see the health and ubercharge of scanned enemies when looking directly at them.

I think the Scanner should have a cooldown around 3s long to somewhat prevent spamming to see enemies a spy might not have seen otherwise.

I think flamethrower was a better idea.
Its a neat idea, it should probably get buffed and replace the Sapper.

No, the sapper should stay. How else would the spy deal with buildings?

What are you talking about?
I like bean's idea actually, a scanner ability would make spy pretty OP and would ruin the great mastery of spies (assuming you're talking about a complete stock upgrade)

How would it make the spy OP? It would just allow him to do in pubs what he does in comp without spamming the mic.
Knowing EXACTLY where an enemy player is and what class they are is WAY different than a spy relaying general information on the whereabouts of the enemy team.

Completely broken concept; I rate it 0 :sticky:'s out of 10.

"Hey guys, they've got a heavy+medic pair with full uber coming to mid and they're half way through the right route." There aren't very many right routes on most maps (1 left, 1 right, sometimes 1 center or only center), so you can actually relay their exact position without the scanner. The scanner just makes it easier to relay this info in pubs. The outline could only last 3s and only while the spy can see them.
The scanner shouldnt tell class, ubercharge, or HP.

Otherwise it suddenly becomes a very pro-competitive weapon.

Well spies can tell their team those things in comp anyway, so it wouldn't change comp that much.

Well theres still the issue of being able to pinpoint the exact enemy position and HP.

If 1 player has the exact position and HP of the other player during combat, then he has a HUGE advantage.

Are you serious? You are talking about item that intend to work like wallhack and wondering why it's called 'OP'?
This is not totally bad idea, but it's must have strongly restrictions, like:
- equips in sapper slot and replace it;
- cooldown for 10-15 seconds;
- medium range, like distance from main resupply door to opposite wall on 2fort;
- and no showing health/ubers.

Allies can only see HP and uber if they look directly at a scanned enemy (no walls between). You can already give very precise info about where the enemy is just by saying what side of the map they are on and how far along a route they are.

Being able to see HP only while looking directly at the enemy is not a real downside. It still dosnt solve the fact its a big advantage.

And i dont mean 'Enemy heavy/medic on the bottom-left tunnel'. I meant in a Soldier Vs. Soldier type of situation, it would be infinatly useful to be able to wallhack.

A wall hack allows you to see enemies even when they aren't seen. This only work on enemies the spy can see while he sees them.

With those stats, a scanner wouldn't even be worth having. Just use a Sapper and tell your team where people are the normal way.

If necessary, classes could say things like "do you ever get the feeling that you are being watched?" when scanned. That way players know to check for spies.
