And you shoudnt be wasting your time on long-range shots when you could be healing teammates. (or running away)The syringe gun on the other hand is surprisingly effective. Because close-range should be the only time where your forced to defend yourself.

The idea for me is, if I die and have to run back into the fight, I can shoot off a few bolts before I'm in healing range. If I hit a teammate, they heal for a hundred. If I hit an enemy, they hurt for a hundred. Hence the name.Close range, you shouldn't be using any shooty thing since medic is the most OP melee class after demoknight. The crossbow fills the gap in weakness quite well, and it's great for healing people outside of your medigun range. I also find it a good way to give an advantage to your side in a melee fight as you make your approach.Infact, thats where I see it as most useful. Think of it as an on-approach utility to make sure you're useful even at a distance. As stated before, medic can already hold his own in close quarters with melee and his movement speed. But if you have a needle gun, you can't heal or deal damage at a distance unless you get a lucky stream of 4-5 needles you spam at a corner. Crossbow lets you go toe-to-toe with midrange soldiers and demomen, aswell as expand on your JOB, healing.I love it, is the point.
