Team Fortress 2
TF2's economy current state.
The TF2 economy has gone crazy due to trading sites, duped items, The market, etc.
Outpost is the site you DON'T want to trade unusuals on Most people either lowball, don't buy anything at all or just decline everything. Duped items have effected the TF2 economy as well bringing prices of things like vintage max, vintage bills and other rare items either way up or down. The market never balances itslef and just is a complete mess. opening crates is almost pointless except for unusuals because the stranges and strange parts are worth crap and keys, oh keys THEY NEVER STOP GOING UP in all TF2 has gone to ♥♥♥♥ when it comes to trading and money.

I don't get the complaints over key prices still rising like crazy. It's not right now, it's only risen by half a scrap (averaged, from 7 flat to 7-7.11) in over two months.
When the ♥♥♥♥ will people realize that metal is losing value because of how much of it is in the system but no real use for it?

We need to balance it, we need new weapons to counter the cosmetics.

Maybe, In-Game Currency. Maybe...

This is complaining about the economy, what does new weapons have to do with anything?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Doing this ?!?!!?!?!!?!!?!?! isn't going to help.

Picture a scale with Cosmetics and Weapons for each side. The Cosmetics are low due to the the amount of hats they produced in 2013, and compare that to the new weapons. No Vintages. No New Stats. Just Reskins to boost the economy.

Hats: Profit, Money Making
Weapons: Scrap, Currency.

Valve is many too many products for use to spend on.

Even if said Reskins were craftable, nothing would really change.

Sure you can token craft them, but they take like, a single refined out of the economy. After a while, there will be about 20,000+, in which there is no need to craft, and people will sell them for a good 2 refined.

I stopped trading for more than craft hats when someone called me a scammer for not wanting to accept his lowball offer.

TF2's economy is terribad.

its hard to find a key for under 7.22 these days. Most sell for 7.22-7.33

Don't blame the economy: blame the people using it. All it takes is one bad or inexperienced apple to gain recognition and BAM! Economy goes nuts.

Because you don't like prices doesn't mean something is broken. I can't afford a ferarri, doesn't mean its price is crazy. There are plenty of people who do buy ferarri's its why they are not out of business. So to say their pricing model is broken is just ignorance.

You can't low ball things that are high value and high demand. People can ask pretty much whatever they want for a max these days because they are rare ..no more are being made, and people want them. So if you can't afford them, too bad, if someone outbids you, too bad, it just means someone wants it more than you do, and thats fair to everyone involved, it doesn't mean its broken, it means the system is being fair. If all you get are lowballs on your unusual, no one wants it, its that simple, you might not want to hear it, but thats the truth. Whats your basis for labeling the offers as lowball anyways, your assumptions are based on very little, price sites are wrong much of the time, its just how it is.

Thats not how economy works. Healthy economy has lots of trading, many prices go up, but many prices go down. The problem is when people like op only fixate on one side, because they covet things they can't afford, and think the world owes them things, when it doesnt'.

Put it this way, do you see these people complaining when a grenade launcher goes from 5 keys to 4 ref? Thats a drop of almost 9x. Yet these same people fixate on things like key prices, which only have doubled in price as if that were the end of the world...they just aren't being honest with themselves on the reality of the situation. They constantly imply prices are out of control, but actually they aren't, and prices go down most of the time for most things out there.

Its not economy, its the population, many of them young children, who if you say no to, will throw a fit. Tradings just a take it or leave it situation, its not personal, but little rage monkeys are relatively common in gaming so you have people who will get upset if they don't get their way. But they don't realize that no ones forcing them to do anything. If you don't like the offer, walk away, find someone else to make the offer. If someone gets told no to all the time, don't externalize it as everyone else being wrong, perhaps ones offer is just bad, but these people won't acknowledge they are wrong...thats the problem.

Outpost has a tendency to sell for more than elsewhere, in a way by using outpost you're paying extra for convenience. Keep in mind that the majority of those selling at 7.33 are also buying at 7.00 and succeeding.
I quit trading after people started to take it waaaay too seriously. My old account I had from when TF2 was brand new was hacked three years ago just because some guy in my college was selling hacked video game accounts with nice stuff on them for money around campus.

Backpack.tf pisses me off a little too. Seriously, I remember, waaaaay back when Keys were around three Refined, Now look at them. No way am I paying a high-baller 7.33-8.00 Refined for one damn Key, Later on only being able to sell it for 6.66-7.00 to a low-baller.

Or when I try to buy or sell that Key for ONE REC below or above the "Suggested price" I get called a scammer.

That is why I hate trading in Team Fortress 2.

No, not likely. Trading keys for profit is laughable. The trade volume is just way too low, and its too easy seling keys at 7.33 to bother selling at 7, the few that sell at 7 are too few to make a profit on in any real way. People buy and sell keys because they need to uncrate and they need the change to buy smaller things, its not realy done for profit on any scale. The only way to do that is an automated bot which would have huge trade volumes per day with personal time wasted, otherwise its just a bad way to profit.

Why is 7 ref for a key high baller? You are buying something which costs money for something which is free. Backpack tf is wrong on a lot of things, but on keys, the trade volume is so high and the logical basis so solid that theres no fudging the result.

Put it this way, every week people end up with about 8 weapons in the bp's, slightly less than half a ref.

Does money just appear in your steam wallet each week too?

Nope, and thats the fundamental imbalance which creates the rise in key prices.

You can't call it highballing because its an entirely rational price. You are lucky that your free nothing pays for something at all. Theres been a flood of metal into the system, drops/crafts/uncrates and the rest flood the refined economy for years, money doesn't flood these same accounts in the same way, so the result is obvious, and rational.

But yes its true its also absurd than anyone charging more or less gets called a scammer, its just a market, and if one doesn't like a price, move on. People who demand the "suggested" price are basing their demands on circular reasoning really. Price sites are always behind the market, and slightly dubious to begin with because most trades are simply invisible to them, and only a subset of trades are brought in as evidence by self selected people with their own motivations. Its a starting point, nothing more, so people don't sell an unusual for a scrap, but outside that, its just what people will accept, and its all arbitrary anyways, as its just fashion. One handbag is worth 2000 dollars because its got a chanel or louis vuitton brand on it, another is 40 dollars because its from target.
