Does iding servers still work in 2014?

I have recently had a conversation with my buddy talking about TF2 idling . I understand that a patch was released in 2013 with certain things that needs to be fulfilled. I guess my main question is that " If i go on a idle server. Type +forward +attack and +left in console. Would i still get drops? I know you have to accept when the 'you found a item' screen pops up but according to my buddy the server somehow automatically closes the item screen' Is this true and if not, is there anyway to idle.

Note: ( i haven't idled for a year or so, and i don't plan to. This is just a matter of curiosity )

I don't think so, but metal gear solid said that he can detect if you cheat on the torture room

You have to play, you can't idle anymore.

Yep, idling is not possible anymore. Also, you are risking to be VAC banned, according to that TF2 blog post.

ElMikky: Ok thanks for clearing it up. Although you can't and will not get VAC banned for idling. The only way you can risk getting vac banned is using a third party program
