Territorial Control?
Do any of you think that 90% of the reason the TC gamemode is hated so much, and as a result has had no new maps EVER, is because of Hydro?

Very few people can deny that Hydro is a pretty garbage map. (I know there are fanboys out there.) But would it be possible to have a map that DOESN'T suck, and also have it be territorial control, and have it be good? I've always LIKED the idea of TC, but the execution is just abysmal, so I'm wondering what you think.

The mode is more confusing than multi-stage maps and Steel combined.
I'm sure it could be done better by not randomly combining the map parts, but the idea that the team has to win multiple times in completely different stages just doesn't work in pubs.

I think a TC map could be done with shared spawnrooms instead of shared control points, but it would still fail in pubs.

Isn't TC kind of like Symmetric Control Points but with randomized map sections? That doesn't seem very original.

TC was released with the game though, alongside the CP types. So I don't know what you mean by unoriginal.

I can only assume Valve wanted as many variations of the control point concept as they could put into the release of TF2.

The gameplay just seems exactly like Symmetric CP, but with randomized maps that go back and forth depending on who wins. If it was like Symmetric CP where capturing last wins the game, but all points are always available for capture, I think that would be more interesting. Last would have to take longer to capture depending on the number of control points already captured though.

No, in Domination CP (cp_standin) you have to capture all control points. In this game mode, you could have 2/5 control points and win the game by capturing last.

Hydro is a good map but gamemode is confusing, would be cool if they just remake it for CP mode like Dustbowl.

I think Hydro could be a lot better if they made it so it's a 5 cp (or more/less, I didn't really count how many control points there are). It might make a good cp map if we had all that room to fight with all the sections being open at once, unlike in TC mode where you must outspam the oneway section chosen to win, which isn't fun.
