PC is magic
About 5 months ago, when I bought my new pc TF2 was running about 120 fps on high. Then I reinstalled windows, and since i reinstalled OS, TF2 on high is 50 fps (not playable). Dafuq? I reinstalled Windows from 7 ultimate x64 to Windows 8 x64 to Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8.1 x64. On 8.1 TF2 should run great! But, it's still 50 fps on high.. Is it Windows fault? Or something in my pc burned/crashed?

If You know how to fix it, please say it! I would be appreciatited. And if someone solve my problem, i will give 1 ref to him. Please respond!

Grow up, if you think 50 fps is unplayable then you need to reevaluate your priorities, you have 2 more FPS that your brain could even detect assuming you have perfect eye-hand coordination and 20/20 vision.

You know, my pc is not so ♥♥♥♥ty to run at 50 fps. At requirments it should run in about 150 fps. And you know, minimum 60 fps to be playable..
It's the Windows 8 fault for being sucky.

Mate, some people play at ~30 fps and are happy if they can reach 50 fps, so don't complain

How is 50 fps unplayable?
Lots of us (albeit a minority) have to use configs and anything else we can to get all the fps we can.
I have to live with 25-30 fps, and it constantly stutters, but I still enjoy this game very much.

I run TF2 at 25 FPS and I enjoy it.

the guy is asking a legit question, not asking how many frames he should get in your opinion

FYI i have a cheap $80 AMD Trinity APU and its running Linux on community handwritten opensource drivers which are slower than the offical drivers by 15-20% and then on top of that the official linux driver is slower than windows by 10 -15 %

So thats an $80 computer running TF2 on highest everything @ 1080p (with no AA) on upto 30% less performance than windows and im still getting 50 -60FPS and beyond.

The problem is most likely windows or your current GPU driver. .. or both.

Stick with linux it is more consistent in performance. A decent GPU should be able to crack 250 - 300 FPS with this game

Now don't be such a baby. I play ~20-30 FPS and the game is still perfectly playable.

20fps is not playable.. unless your on a laptop where a smaller screen makes it more acceptable to see lower frames. The larger the screen the more obvious and hideous low FPS becomes.

an oculus rift 3D headset will have to run at 60fps flat as it hurts the eyes dropping lower for example. A 27" screen looks terrible on 20fps. A Big picture 40", 50", 60" HDTV looks terrible at 20fps.

A projector looks awful at low fps.

The biggest problem with steam is that most people have crap hardware that cant even run a really old, easy to run average graphics game at 20 - 30fps and run really terrible quality off the shelf Laptops.

Twoonyourface: So I should try linux? Other ppl- you all can buy cheap GPU for around 50 pounds (or more if you can do it) and play TF2 with more than 60 fps.

P.S. I will buy GTX 660 OC on my birthday, but until that time I need to play somehow.

why not ?

Grab a copy of ubuntu from the website, use a tool called unetbootin or pendrive linux and write an ISO to a USB pen..

then boot the USB pen, try out the live version for 30mins, and decide if you like it. Then if you do, install it (careful if you have a windows partition here or just blow windows away and forget about it)

Then install steam like normal. Install TF2.

The Nvidia drivers are 99% identical on Linux to the Windows Drivers in performance.

good luck, let me know how you get on.
