How is instantly dying to a shot you'd most likely have survived from fair?
Crits are randomly generated; but crit-chance is a product of damage done in the previous 30 seconds as well as if you are using melees or not.
If you've dealt 800 damage in the previous 30 seconds you're more likely to score a melee crit than a normal hit; so the idea that random crits are "lucky" when they can actually be circumstantially more likely to occur than the alternatives is misguided.
Furthermore, skill informs the outcome. If you aren't anywhere near the aforementioned crit-rocket, it can't kill you at all. No matter what number the RNG generates, that crit will NEVER kill you if you dodge it altogether.
Likewise, if you miss a target, your crit will deal no damage even if you are "lucky" and one was generated.
Not all crits are lethal, crits can be circumstantially mitigated (By Vaccinator and Battallion's backup effect at present), and they are balanced out by non-random (procedural) crits and the like.
The cards in dealt in world tournament quality poker games might be random; but the outcome of the match isn't because skill informs the outcome.
Oh, and BTW it took me literally 3 secs to go to server browser and find 82 no-crit servers... Just go to the "include" field in the server browser and type "nocrits"
When you need to change your loadout in order to counter a random element, that's when you realize the random element seems a bit too strong.
Random crits existed on all weapons that weren't able to cause a critical hit.
Now virtually every weapon bar one can be crit boosted in some way.
Oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking about Team Fortress 2.
6% or 60%, it's still comes out as a more random element than a skill based one.
Tell me how I can dodge a random crit minigun's hitscan.
BTW, it took me substantially less time to go to the server browser and find hundreds of servers with the random critical hits on
