Where can TF2 go from here?
I think it's almost run it's course. There isn't a whole lot of room for this game to grow, outside of maybe giving it a full on single player campaign I think a clean slate in the form of TF3 may be required soon because they can't just keep adding to the TF2 gameplay forever

No.
As long as they keep adding hats I'm sure people will keep trading.

Anyways, as far as updates, I think I have to agree that unfortunately I don't think we are going to get anymore big ones, sadly. Oh well. I'm sure the community will keep things going after a while though.

Btw, this game is one of valves top money makers. They aren't gonna quit. They still can add new content.
I don't think he meant to say that they're quitting on TF2, but I don't think we can expect many more huge updates to the game.

Well, tf2 came out around (10?) years after TFC. If there is going to be a tf3, which there won't, it would be around 2020.
Have you seen the Workshop?

OPs premise is the definition of irony. Valves problem with TF2 is the exact opposite of what OP proposes. They have more content on the workshop and more valuable gameplay addition ideas floating around than they know what to do with. IMO there may indeed be a 'TF3' update splitting off future PVP updates from 'TF2', but it would still be F2P and in the same launcher and inventory, probably all 'TF2' weapons usable in 'TF3' (but not vice versa). just a different game type. however even that is not likely - Valve has made a careful study of massive change to established systems, and know that it is possible.

TF3 is confirmed not to happen. And a campaign? Never. They can add anything to tf2 that they could add to tf3

I'm afraid we are just going to have to let TF2 keel over at some point. TF3 is not ever going to happen. There is no way to make it seem more enticing than TF2 ever was. Everyone would miss the mercs, story, Gibus jokes, maps, hell, just about everything. It's too hard to replace.

There is both the EoTL update and the update hinted in the current ARG that are probably coming out this year, so, yeah.
