If the heavy were gone tommorow, would anything of value be lost?
I... honestly don't think it would... He's out performed in every single way by the other classes. Engineers portable sentries are much tougher with a greater effective range, plus they've got teleporters and dispensers. Demomen are much better at taking down the defense, therefore better uber and kritz targets. Between the rocket launcher and shotgun, the soldier is more than capable of keeping his medics safe from the enemies. The heavy been easiest for new players isn't really an arguement anymore because each class has had unlocks introduced over the years which have lowered the skill floor for all of the stock classes.

Guys, I think something has to be done about the heavy. He's ♥♥♥♥ in his current state.

First off; Uprising Mob.

Then Raid on Valve HQ.

Then Steam falls down.

Then TF2, Dota 2, CS:GO, all Steam games are dead.

All because of a class which had only one combat ability, which was to W+M1,was removed from a virtual game :wrynscared:

You would upset the people who enjoy playing heavy, for one. He's certainly not outperformed by every single class. For example, the engineer can be useful for defense, but the main appeal of using the heavy and demoman for defense is that they can quickly defend while the engineer needs his sentry to actually defend effectively. The heavy can be useful for defense, and he's also useful for offense. He's not as great as some classes in everything, but so is the soldier, and you don't seem to believe that the soldier can easily be replaced. The heavy can do most things adequately, which is why he's good.

Some new unlocks do lower the skill floor, but some of these unlocks aren't arguably as effective as stock.

The only change that the heavy would possibly need is more skill-indexing. He's fine aside from that.

Heavy is very sad at the moment, essentially useful only in payload. I think he can and will be fixed, though.

The heavy certainly isn't only useful in payload. He's useful in all gamemodes when the team needs to be defensive.

The key to being a good heavy is knowing WHEN to be one, and taking full advantage of the mobility he has. He's super slow and everything, yes. But the high DPS makes him great for ambushing and pressuring.

And of course, give a heavy kritz and he'll mow everyone down. Very valuable.

either soldier or demo does s+m1 more effectively, without being limited to it. the problem with heavy is due to the general skill level of the players rising over time. i say this and know people will laugh at it because OBVIOUSLY the F2P gibusvision horse♥♥♥♥ers just MUST be worse at the game than 'the old players' ever were. but really it is the truth. any class is capable of dealing the requisite damage to kill anything, including heavy or a lvl3, within a few seconds, and the number of players capable of doing so (which includes general, non-technical skills like awarenes and efficiency) will only continue to rise.

i think if the original Heavy concept (big slow fat guy, effectively zero mobility, but with a clumsy but powerful weapon and a ton of health) reimplemented today he would probably have some kind of innate constant healing effect and 500+ health. Which would be absurd and broken as soon as there were more than a couple around.
