(SOLVED!!!) Stopped PLAYING because of LAG SPIKES
Hello TF2'ers (Or TF2ians, Or TF2gans (Like Sandiagans))

After much dilberation, and many hours of playing the game (1200+ to be exact) I have decided to stop playing Team Fortress 2. Why you may ask. Well, my friends... I seem to have contracted a disease well known as "Lag spikes". This is when you're happily playing TF2 (And only this game, no other game has this effect on my 2014 Alienware X51) when suddenly your game goes into freeze mod for a duration between 1-2 seconds. In this case, you're most positively dead. I cannot fathom how ANNOYING this is. There you are, absolutely ravaging as a scout when suddenly boom, a rocket which you see and think "pah, I'll dodge that easy" becomes your ultimate death sentence. Why? LAG SPIKE. IT MADE YOU FREEZE, THUSLY MAKING THE ROCKET PLUG YOU, BOOM YOUR DE..NVM ANOTHER LAGSPIKE... FFUUUU.

Now, I'm not a competitive player, oh no. I just like winning a few gun fights, as do most gamers. But how can I when I get constantly frozen and become a sweet sweet target for the enemy? This is most frustrating. It seems to happen to quite a lot of players when I Googled the issue.

Unfortunatly, after alot of research the result is this - THERE IS NO FIX!!!!!!

I have uninstalled both Steam and Team Fortress 2 (Roughly 5 times, I really loved the game)
I have updated everything. I MEAN EVERYTHING. Defraged, Virus checked, thrown AVG out, done ♥♥♥♥ with the console commands. NOTHING. NOTHING WORKS.

My superb Alienware X51 destroys games. It makes Rome Total War 2, Crysis, Battlefield 4 and etc run like water. Absolutely no problems. But why TF2? WHAY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!!? I LOVED YOU. Why? :(

Sigh, Alas... no longer.

Signing off,
A frustrated super fan of Team Fortress 2

P.S - If you find a solution/can help, please post it. I still have hope.

Have you tried verifying the game cache? Maybe every time you download you're missing a file or something. Maybe it's just your internet?

Several times Smeelio. And my internet runs Fibre Optic - 60mbps. As I said, this issue is definitely Valve/TF2's and they've done nothing about it.

Ah ok. Well then I'm stumped. Sorry to see a player go, especially someone likes you who sounds like they really enjoy it. I hope they fix the problem and you don't have to!

Did you try changing settings? Maybe there is some non-important setting messing with the game.

And sorry, I have to do this.

The argument "My alienware destroys everything" means nothing.
It is like saying my Car can go fast but something is wrong, yet you give no info about it.

Give us real information - give us your processor, Rams, video card, everything.

I had the EXACTLY same thing happening to me too, very often. After few months it was not that often, maybe like 2 spikes a hour. Then ive talked to ISP about this, he said he take a look, did something with the net, and bam. Now iam getting lag spikes only when i have some internet based programs running along Steam. Like Origin, Skype, Torrent and such. And when they are turned off, TF2 runs smoothly.

Even when you have Fiber optics, talk to your ISP. It worth the try, its free.

Reinstalling the game sometimes helps out.

Try resetting your router, or getting it closer to your pc. Helps me when That crap happens

1-2 seconds
you ever experienced that moment of overflow where your screen and viewmodel spaz out and yet the pnig is good and everyone moves normally

Thanks alot for all your inputs. I will definitely give them a shot and post results. I havent touched my Router so who knows, maybe its that (Even though its literally on top of my PC and wirely connected).

Gagik, basically what happens to me. I have pings that are 12-20 because of my super speed Internet, but still "lag".

Try opting for a wired connection to your router or modem if possible. It has virtually no interference compared to wireless which results in a more reliable and stable connection with less ping and less ping spikes.

when other people watch internet videos in your house it prings up your ping

I run jdownloader in the background, and I found that to cause a problem, I changed some settings, and priority and it stopped it from doing that pause. Its not a lag spike when your screen freezes like its loading textures or whatever, that's entirely on your client side. If we're talking about the same thing the game literally freezes, but yes this game is fragile, its the most prone to freezing, other games are more resilient, I don't know what its doing during those pauses, but when it happens, its usually when it seems to be streaming in textures for a new player you encounter or something, which tends ot mean you freeze when encountering an enemy, so you die. I can get rid of it by rebooting and justdoing everything possible to minimize other programs using resources, but its really something broken on valves end that's causing this fragility, because modern games don't choke like this, only tf2.
