Why do people say TF2 is dead?

Why do people say TF2 is dead?
Are they just trying to make people angry?
Or are they just mad because it's a little different from when they first started playing?

I looked up the player stats. Avg player numbers has been around 50,000 since July 2012. It's 54,000 right now. Are there other numbers that say differently?

Also people say that Valve doesn't care about the game anymore because of the recent update. The fact that valve changed so much in this update shows how much they do care. They didn't execute it very well, but they are communicating and are steadily improving it.

I for one, love how casual runs right now. And if they add being able to stay in the same map like they say they will, I think it will be pretty much perfect.

TL;DR
I don't understand what makes people say that TF2 is dead. Where is the evidence of a decline?

EDIT:
From the responses, I have concluded that there is no evidence of TF2 dying. When people say "TF2 is dead" what they mean is "TF2 is dead to me" or "I don't like TF2 anymore".

What do you mean? I don't think TF2 is dying but it might be. I just want to see some evidence.

Valve ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over the trading community.

Only new people would be interested in paying for the game, noting that keys aren't as valuable because the new mobile authenticator just rekt anybody without a smartphone. (and me trying to sell my damn items for some new games bc this one kinda bores me a bit)

If the trading has died down, so have key sales/sales of other big items in the store.

If the game isn't making as much profit as it costs to run servers for it.

The plug could get pulled.

4,000 people is a nice addition, I guess, but is that the current amount of players, or all-time? All time, that might be some trouble, especially if they're mostly non-premiums.

The game isn't dead, but it probably lost a load of active members after the escrow thing a while ago.

I hadn't thought about the trading aspect. I would assume the game is still very profitable but idk.

54,000 players was average daily for the month. It's not really an addition tho, I was just showing that the numbers are pretty stable. It's reached 60,000 and as low as 40,000.
