Team Fortress 2
How To : Reset Item's ID
So, every time you trade an item/weapon, you change the ID Number of the weapon.

e.g. Current ID and Original ID of a hat were 12345, then someone traded it to me and the current ID became 23456.

You might ask: How does it matter?

Well, it matters because all dropped items with no trading history will have the same ID of both Original one and Current one, and you can just know if someone's item is obtained by trading or item drop system.
If you have a strange weapon/ hat or even the extremely rare golden frying pan in your inventory with the same ID (no history), people will generally think that you're very lucky in getting one.
But, if you have 1 with a different ID, people will only think you're rich but not lucky.

But this ISN'T always the case, as one day I received a gift from a random person (I have no idea how he/she gifted it to me, maybe Giftapult or Gift Warp), and both ID of the gift are the same!
This shouldn't be possible if gifted items work the same way as trading!
Either it does not change the ID of the gifted item, or it treats the gifted item as a random drop.

As this is very useful, I started to wonder: Is there more ways to do it? So I've decided to make a post here and let you guys share your experiences.

Please comment if the following methods work using:
Name Tag
Description Tag
Decal Tool
Paints
Strange Parts
bacon grease
Strangifier
Festivizer
Halloween spells
Gift Warp
Giftapult

Free to leave comments if you find out more ways to do so!

Q&A

Q1: What's the point?
A1: The point is to trick people that you get an unusual item
(or extremely rare item) by resetting the item ID of a traded unusual.
Also, unusual items with short history can usually be sold with better value.

Question, how do you see the "ID" of an item?

They used a Secret Saxton.

The item was both new and gifted at the same time. No mystery here.

What is the point exactly
People couldn't care less about the history of items available in large quantities (most stuff except unusuals, amazing pro ks's, glitched and collector items)

You can see it by going to backpack.tf and click on the item you want to check. It will show both ID, item trade history, the way you get that item etc.

Thanks for answering my question :)
But is there still other ways to reset the item ID? (make the item become new by some ways to get it in the menu where you check new items get or new crafted item?

The point is to trick people that you get an unusual item by reseting the item ID of a traded unusual.

Except that a gifted unusual is usually less desired than a long history one

So you're trying to cheat the value of your unusual by artificially inflating its value? That's pretty low.

Not cheat, but use other in-game ways to make it become a "NEW" item with new ID, maybe something like renaming it or paint it.

This conga taunt changed ID 2 times, but it never left my inventory.

I don't have any idea why.
