Metro: Last Light Complete Edition

Metro: Last Light Complete Edition

A note from 4A Games about FOV
[Update: a new patch has been released to add in r_base_fov in user.cfg after starting the game up. You can find it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\4A Games\Metro LL\]

Hey all. The community feedback about FOV has not gone unnoticed. 4A Games has this update for you about FOV and what they are working on:

We're aware the community have been asking for a 'Field of View' slider for Metro: Last Light. Unfortunately, this was not as simple a thing to implement as it might appear!

The main reason for maintaining a fixed FOV is because we have 3D elements like the watch and weapon ammo that need to remain visible.

In addition, all the game's first-person cut scenes and cinematics and each and every animation involving Artyom's hands - idle weapon animations, reloads, ladder climbing, melee attacks etc, - were created assuming the same, fixed field of view.

Changing the FOV would break all the cut-scenes and animations - you would be able to see inside Artyom's arms, or they would appear to float in the air in front of you. Or worse.

We had considered offering three FOV pre-sets, but this would still require significant work to re-do every animation, adjust the HUD and UI and other seemingly small but incredibly time consuming tasks.

Even with a wider but still fixed field of view, Artyom's hands would look too far away. We know - we tried.

Game performance is also tied to FOV - the amount of geometric detail we put in each scene has been partly determined by this set FOV, and setting a wider FOV would have a performance impact.

We understand this issue is important to many people, and we have been looking at possible solutions.

In the immediate term - the next title update, due in the next few days will allow you to directly change the FOV in the .cfg files.

This may well trigger a number of issues listed above - you have been warned!

Pinning this thread for the time being.
Still waiting for EU release, but I'm very glad to hear that. After watching TB's video and hearing about how narrow the FOV was and there was no option to change, I was really concerned. Trust us, we can deal with some issues if that means we don't feel like we're banging our heads against the wall when trying to play.
Something I would like more is an option to check your ammo.

In the original metro looking at your watch brought up the HUD, even in hardcore mode. Something like this would be nice.
Great to hear... Always better to have an option with minor gfx problems or things looking weird than no options at all ..
That's cool of them to do :) I won't be using it but I've seen a lot of people wanting it lol I just hope the title update allows me to play it, my character models look like blobs!

I agree with *Player Name Here* on Ranger Hardcore. It's effectively broken right now. No way at all to check ammo besides what's in your gun at the moment, which secondary weapon is selected, how many of them you have, etc.

As for the FoV, I'm not bothered by it as much as other people, but it does make the game unplayable for a good deal of people. Not only having the FoV locked, but having the game break at any change in it is not very good game design I would say. I played through 2033 with a FoV of around 90, calculated from the vertical FoV you guys use and ran into little problems, so it being different here surprises me.
Personally the FOV doesn't bother me at all, its fine for me. Just the stupid shadow flickering!!! GAHH!!!!

Pressing and holding TAB in-game allows you to view all the ammo types you have for every equip and even unequipped weapons.

agreed
I think it'a annoying to make them do such time consuming work just to implement an fov slider or cfg, but if people are getting the "I am feeling sick" Then so be it. Ive played thousands of hours in many different fps games with standard fov, same in 2033 but people differs.

I rebound it to one of my mouse keys but pressing or holding that does nothing for me when playing Ranger Hardcore.

Not in ranger hardcore.

Ranger was perfect in 2033, why change it?

To Prof. Pew and 4A, thanks for the update!

Thanks for that. I'll try it out when it's available. If there are too many issues i'll play with the base FOV, if not i'll ramp it up to 85 or 90 as usual.

Should be great either way, can't wait for friday.

So 4A can comment on the FOV with a ETA but the HDTV issue has no ETA.? Really I hope it's not in the fov update, I hope this gets fixed before that. This is ridiculous, bought a Gtx 670 with metro last light with the sole purpose to stream it at midnight but nope. Thx 4a for not having an aspect ratio option which would solve the issue but you think us pc users are console owners and don't know how to tune our settings. AS FOR THE FOV the excuse is not very good as a FOV should of been kept in mind during the dev process especially in 2013. All this shows is a pour attempt at making this a decent pc port in terms of options.

Oh and thanks for not including the ranger mode for the NVIDIA promotion. Your excuse that the retailers demand dlc is bs also as most game come with 1 dlc gun, which you offered with bullets but you needed the ranger mode in there also?

I'm starting to see a trend of excuses to deflect poor choices.
