Troubleshooting and interim solutions thread
I'll keep updating this thread as interim solutions to known issues are found.

Steam-related issues
Ranger Mode not available in game after unlock
Restart Steam, and try verifying the game cache to ensure everything was downloaded correctly (Library > right-click on Metro: Last Light > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache).

Can't find the digital novel and I ordered from the US
The digital Metro: 2033 novel should be in \Steam\steamapps\common\Metro Last Light\novel by default.

If you don't have anything there, you can also manually download it by clicking on the "DLC" entry, under LINKS, on the right-hand side of your Library entry for Metro: Last Light. Alternatively, go to the Store page for Metro: Last Light and find it under Downloadable Content.

If none of these solution work for you, please contact Steam support.

Can't find the digital comic book
If you pre-purchased on Steam, find it in the Metro: Last Light Steam Library entry on the right-hand side, under "CD Key". Enter it here: https://digital.darkhorse.com/metro/

If you pre-ordered at retail and didn't get a key, contact your retailer.

General troubleshooting
We're continuously collecting information to find out the cause of issues on specific hardware setups. Try some of these typical and sometimes non-typical solutions in the meantime:

Nvidia and ATI control panels
Make sure a setting in your GPU control panel software is not overriding settings in the game.

Lower than expected performance on ATI cards
Make sure to turn off Advanced PhysX under Options > Game Options.

Drivers
If the latest Nvidia driver doesn't work for you, try rolling back to 314.22.
Make sure your other drivers are up to date, as well (motherboard, peripherals).

Game executable crashed on launch

There could be numerous reasons for this (a user's PC config or one specific thing messing with the game). But if you have a wireless headset with USB receiver, try unplugging it and see if that starts the game properly.

See this thread for details: http://steamcommunity.com/app/43160/discussions/0/810924765076291317/

Random freeze when starting New Game
Try running the benchmark tool, located in the Steam installation folder.

When I start the game, a developer console appears
This is not supposed to happen, but try typing "host 000" in the console to load up the main menu.

Gameplay related
My nightvision stopped working
If you used nightvision and after a while the vision starts to glitch, followed by Artyom removing nightvision and refusing to keep it on again: use the battery to charge up nightvision. It uses battery power.

Pavel gets stuck
If reloading a checkpoint doesn't unstuck him, try quitting to menu and loading checkpoint. If that fails, restart the Chapter.

Reporting the confirmation of a solution
Feel free to add solutions that have worked for you to this thread.

To make it easier to read for people, use the following format:

- What the problem was
- What your PC specs are (OS, CPU, GPU and driver version, number of displays, display connections, sound card type and driver version)
- What you did to solve the problem you had

I want to report a problem
If none of the listed suggestions work for you, leave your issue not in this thread but in this dedicated Issue reporting thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/43160/discussions/0/810924134069896906/

I preordered my Ranger Edition Metro at Gamestop for the additional Gamestop exclusive gun, sadly that does not count as a steam preorder.
All those who own the game it would be nice if everyone got a copy of the book Metro the original game is based on since we all were fans of the story in the original game.

Thanks and good luck with the game!

For those with bad performance issues on ATI, This is what my user.cfg looks like now, quality Very High, DX 11, SSAA OFF, Tesselation Normal, 1920*1280 Res. Runs smooth and looks great!

r_af_level 1
r_api 2
r_blur_level 0
r_dbg_stereo_separation_base 0
r_dbg_stereo_separation_zoom 0
r_dx11_tess 1
r_enum_ssaa 10
r_fullscreen on
r_gamma 1.10000002
r_quality_level 3
r_res_hor 1920
r_res_vert 1080
r_ssaa_auto 0.
r_supersample 1.
r_tess_ss 0
r_vsync off

%APPDATA%\Local\4A Games\Metro LL\\user.cfg

I don't know if everything adds up to what it says on the in game menu, but it looks nice, except for the flickering shadows that other reports of having, though with these settings i have no FPS drop

using AMD R HD 7970, AMD Phenom II 4x3.4ghz. 16GB Ram Win 7

Unlocked the game last night but did not have Ranger Mode available. Tried restarting and verifying cache but it still does not work.

I played the game right after release, before the small patch they released earlier today. The performance was much worse then. I updated to the AMD 13.4 drivers with no luck.

Right now, after the small patch, the performance is pretty good and there's none of that odd hitching in framerate pre-patch. However, the shadow problems are still there. I'm about to try going to the 13.5 beta drivers.

Not a fix, but just make sure you've updated the game, and update your AMD video drivers to at least 13.4 to get rid of performance issues. The settings don't really matter since it was the patch the fixed the performance issues. But you'll want to avoid PhysX still

My prevous posts:

"I am having the same issue with my 2 560s in SLI. Going to download the new drivers(as I have the beta drivers right before said new ones) and see if it fixes this issue. Otherwise it's off to find the right file to edit.

Well the new drivers didn't work on mine. It keeps setting my settings to 1440x480 I don't know why, because my monitor is 1920x1080. So editing the game files I go. I will check back here if I am successful.

'Originally posted by Bonedust:
I had the same problem and found what appears to be a temporary fix, First I went to my steam Metro LL folder and opened the user.cfg set my resolution "r_res_hor 1920 r_res_vert 1080" then changed fullscreen to off "r_fullscreen off", then I went to my local\4agames\metro LL folder and deleted the user.cfg there, Now my game boots up in windowed mode at the proper resolution.'

I tried this and it did not work for me. Although I do have something else that might be the problem. The game itself is not showing up in my "Programs and Features" under the control panel. This might be the issue. The game is not even creating a folder in the "My Documents" folder. As in the only settings file that the game has created is the one in the Metro Last Light folder under \Steam\steamapps\common\ . I am hoping a deletion and a re-download will fix this issue. As I used steam's "Preload" function 2 days ago, this might have caused the issue. Every game I have downloaded has made it to the "Programs and Features" under the control panel. Most recent is the game Bioshock Infinite. Yet I have not used steam's Preload function till now and I am getting the stated issue. So either the game itself has an issue, or the preload did. I have DSL so I will not know if this has fixed anything until tomorrow. I will check back then if it has fixed this issue.

Edit: After I uninstalled the game and started the download, the game showed up on the Program and Features list. We shall see tomorrow if that fixes this issue."

The game is still not letting me save any options. That is including my video options. The spot where you change the resolution is blank. The game now shows up in my Programs and Features but I do not think that it's related to that issue. I have checked in the C:\Users\(USERNAME)\Documents\4A folder for a folder named Metro LL and there does not seem to be one. This is where the config file that the game creates is suppose to be. Yet no matter what I do the game will not create one. I have run the benchmark exe that is in the Metro Last Light folder and even set the settings to max, with the resolution at 1920x1080 and it always starts the benchmark at 1440x480. The benchmark makes a folder in the C:\Users\(USERNAME)\Documents\4A folder for last light but that doesn't help. I hope this information helps as this was a game I had been following for almost 2 years now. My computer stats are:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
HDD: Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH160G1 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - OEM (where the game is located)
MotherBoard: EVGA P55 FTW SLI Motherboard - Intel P55, Socket LGA1156, SLI+PhysX, Crossfire
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 Processor - 2.66GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, Overclocked to 4.005GHz
ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX Blue LED 135mm, Long life bearing CPU Cooler
Memory: G.Skill F3-12800CL9-4GBXL 2x 4GB PC3-12800 (800MHz)
Graphic Cards: 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 560 2GB , SLI
560's Overclocked: Core Clock:950MHz Shader Clock:1900MHz Memory Clock:2004MHz
DirectX 11 1920 x 1080(p) (32bit/64bit) (60.000Hz), HDMI, 40" Sony LCD
Power Supply: CORSAIR Gaming Series GS800 800W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready
Corsair Graphite Series 600T Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I have reversed all my overclocks to no avail. I hope this helps make a speedy patch. Here is to hoping.
MeatLips May 14, 2013 @ 12:15pm
How can you tell if the patch installed? I see mention of this patch in several places, but I still run into the same resolution issue that a lot of people have been ♥♥♥♥♥ing about.
SoullessDreamer May 14, 2013 @ 12:17pm
The patch did not fix the resolution issue. It fixed performance issues with ATI cards.

Oh, well at least there's that. Guess I'll just continue checking back periodically.

I was able to find the real .cfg file and put the game in window mode thanks to Deli. This is not a fix, but it does show me that the game on my rig, can do 1920x1080. I had to change the resolution and "r_fullscreen" to off on both .cfg files in "C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro LL\" and "\SteamApps\common\Metro Last Light". I also had to set both .cfg files to "Read only" or the game would just copy over the settings I had changed. This DID NOT fix the fact that the setting in game, to change the resolution, is still blank. And ever time I try to click on the arrows to change the resolution the game stops responding, even in window mode. This seems to be something internally that needs to be addressed.

How in the hell do I fix this?!

What did you edit to make it "work"? This looks like you got the game to come up into some sort of debug mode.
