One of the most acceptable linear stories to this date. If you're considering of buying this game, I recommend buying the REDUX version which has updated graphics for the same price.
You play as Artyom, the mute Gordon Freeman of the apocalyptic future in the Metro system of Russia's Moscow. Your character only speaks in the loading screens as a narrated reading of his thoughts on the events that happened. The story is based on the book with the same name, but small differences exist in the game like the different endings that are available.
The scenery, atmosphere and soundscape is immersive and convincing. It feels like you are wearing a gas mask, it is cold and a hostile environment. Ammunition is scarce and military grade bullets are actually used as currency for buying and selling items. You can then choose to use the precious ammo and take down enemies easier, but suffer long term for not being able to buy the items that you might encounter during the game.
The best thing is that the game got a sequel. The bad thing is that your actions and savegame does not carry over to the next game, making your choices futile except for the experience of the first game.
