Metro 2033

One of the best games I ever played...
Seriously, the title says it all. Metro 2033 is one of the best game I ever played, especially in the post apyacopse section game, far better than Fallout series, and better than these zombies games including dead island, dead raising and loads of games.

This game includes emotion, desperation, powerful characters and the methods of survival within the game is brilliant. Some points in the game i ♥♥♥♥ my pants and fought so difficult enemies.

But what is better than these? The storyline. It just pulls you in. It makes you to want to know what happened after, one thing after other, you'd shout no! or grunts and shouts as you fight agianst strong enemies (Libarians or demons anyone?) and sort of celebrates when you solved a mistery or a difficult objection.

The ending in metro 2033 was so exciting!, depsite that it could be better but no spoilers, you have to finish it first before Metro Last Light! Can't wait for the mistery to come with it.

Man, finished the game yesterday, and what a really good game it is. It's a hard game, never seen a bug in the game, stealth kinda of works if you manage to go full stealth, and man, the parts when your friends says to you find a way around or they are dead leaving you alone with the mutants or bad people, never ♥♥♥♥♥♥ myself so much. This game is 10/10.
Gonna have to agree with you. In the Linear Shooter genre, I'm going to have to say I enjoyed this game more than Half Life 2.

It's not that it's an objectively better game than HL2; it's just that while I love a good resistance story, post-apocalyptic stories speak to the deepest part of me. I love the desperation, the bleak atmosphere, the hopeless characters. I love it when a post-apocalyptic world is properly realized in the dialog, the humor, and the environment.

I loved Metro 2033 from beginning to end.

Now that the Mass Effect franchise has been removed from the list, STALKER: Call of Pripyat is my favorite game of all time followed by Metro 2033 and then STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Personally I didn't like Fallout 3. It was a pretender to the genre, never once achieving what makes the genre so appealing to me.

The first game is called Metro 2033, and the second game is called Metro Last Light. It's story has been co-written by the author of Metro 2033 and is a sequel to 2033.
If you like that then you should play STALKER series since the game makes a reference to the stalker series with the "Roadside picnic" in the library. Plus the next game Metro Last Light is comming out next month on the 13th. But seriously consider getting STALKER
i Must agree i finished last night really enjoyed game Good story gr8 atmosphere I think The Big Game Makers Bioware ect Should take note This is how single player shooters should be done Heres Hoping last Light makes its March release date still and new company dont do anything stupid like tagging multiplayer on it leave it Single please :)

Agreed. I haven't seen a bug whilst ran it on ultra settings. The environment is just perfect. It's not the air that is dangerous when you're outside. It's how much filter you have when forced to go on the surface.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ myself just before going in the library. I jumped into a sewer pipe but when i looked up before completely inside the pipe, I saw a movement of a demon on a roof spreading its wings. So because of that. I quickly looked up out of the hole wondering if i saw was what i thought i saw but instead of looking at the sky out of the hole, the head of the demon flow in and was inches from my face i shouted before shooting with my shotgun at its face.

Cos of that shouting moment, my girlfriend ran in holding my batball bat, thinking I was attacked lol

However paranoia can take over you in this game. You'd think, oh would i have enough bullets for what possiblity stand ahead? Will I have enough filter?

Characters in this game are entertaining and apparently there are about three different endings for this game. Time for round two i reckon.

Agreed with Fallout. It feels like some sort of a mockery out of the all games such as Metro, STALKER, etc. It's a cartoon verison for those genre as best as it could be accutely described.

I loved Mass Effect 1 and 2, but admittly, I haven't got round to play mass effect 3 despite having it on the shelf. I played Half Life 1 and it is a really good game but I don't understand why but I just can't get clicked into it. I get bored with it after a while.

Although in the entire game, I can't help but wonder what happened to the Hunter. Did he die? Did he just happen to be unable to turn back? I hope that he will be still alive in Metro Last Light, forthcoming with praise for his bravery and duty to save the humanity from the end of the days.

In support to the evidence to what i mentioned on the pervious comment on the different endings. There are two endings are possible, depending on choices the player makes throughout the game. In the normal/bad ending, Artyom allows the missiles to fire, destroying the Dark Ones. The alternate/good ending gives Artyom the choice to destroy the laser guidance device, citing a last-minute realization that the Dark Ones were actually attempting to make peaceful contact through the hallucinations.

I never thought that the dark ones tried to make peaceful contact... When they tried to kill the whole metro of humans! lol I'll give it another shot for certain.
You might wanna try getting both of the endings :D. And please, don't ♥♥♥♥ with Fallout series, finish the game then rate it... or add some mods. Still, Metro-Stalker-Fallout greatest trio ever, it's so hard choosing a better one. I have faith in Deep Silver's Last light or Vostok Games's Survivarium after all that happened. Hell, even Stalker Online is not that bad.
One of the best games ever made, yes! A 10/10 game, no. This game is awesome, but there are some things that bothers me:

The length of the game is so freaking short. The experiece you get from this game is unforgettable, but when you complete the game about +- 10 hours, it's done. You can't do something else other then a new game. That dissapoints me so much. This game could be so much more. The level design and atmosphere are so realistic. I've never seen it at in any other game. But why didn't the designers do anything with that. Why didn't they make interactive levels or atmosphere, like parts of wall that falls apart when grenades explode or the shadow and light differences, I didn't feel like I could hide in the shadows to be sneaky, I got many times detected while I was far away in the dark, and this is a key factor for the gameplay. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like that's way too much work, but games like these, you must focus on every detail! It's a short and small game, so give the players an illusion that the game is big. And I think they failed that part. You can see they tried to give you the illusion of free roam, but you can easily see and feel that it's a lineair game. You see the path where you need to go(only 1 level I got stuck) and there are no choices on wich way you go. And why didn't the designers give the game more/bigger RPG-elements. Why didn't they put free roam/exploration in the game. Give rewards for exploring a station, talk with people, side quests, earn respect, do filthy jobs, chose between good or evil so you get a reputation or choices that you can make that affect the surroundings. What I always like is to open closets or drawers, search for clues/ammo/details/junk. Or what about salvaging and search parts for creating your own equipment. With these bigger RPG-elements this game could be 3x longer and way more fun. What I also want to mention is what they did with the money/currency. It's so creative about the currency in the game, but after a while you feel that the money/ammo has the best purpuse if you use it to shoot. Half in the game you get the upgrades for the weapons you like and that's it, you can't buy anything more then some useless upgrades for weapons you don't use, medkits you almost get every dead dude you see. The filters were usefull and gave you a more realistic feel about the atmosphere. But a silencer for you weapon, there were like 4 scenes where you can chose to go 'stealthy.'

So my conclusion is: A game you must have played it once! An unforgettable experience, short, but really enjoyable. But there's a big chance when you complete this game you're never going to play it again.

So I give this game a 9/10
- Lack of things to do in the game( => short).
- Once completed, never going to touch this game. (You are not stimulated to replay this game, there are no different playstyles/gameplays you can do, only 3 different endings)
+ Realistic Atmosphere and level design. (Never seen in any other game)
+ Perfect shooting/aiming.
+ Amazing story.
+ It has some RPG-elements(That's something I want in every game, I wish they only were bigger in this game)

I hope this enlighten's everybody why this game isn't the best game ever in my opinion.
Do you realise that there is three different endings?

Although true, there is a small element of free-roam but do not forget that this story came from a book that was written about 10 years ago. It was not written for the game thus making it to look like a linear game but it was meant to be as it was entirely copied from the book.

Do your research before making judgements of it.

I felt there was plenty of things to do in the game, you can make choices to save or leave people behind to die or be selfish and watch your own ass. Personally, I would replay it all over and over if I had the time.

#Edit# Also you said that it was too freaking short? I think you'll find that something like COD is twice shorter than Metro. It was meant to play with passion, to embrace it. Not finish it as soon as you can to see how long you can finish it.

Just finished it on easy. I know I didn't get the true Metro combat expireanse at that setting. I don't like games giving me stress. That said, everything the OP said is dead on.

Well, I didn't know there were 3 endings, so that gives some replay value. I got the bad ending, but reading this: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Endings enlightens me to replay it again. And how you aqcuire the endings is nicely done!

Only your argument about the game is linear sounds a bit strange to me: 'It's based on a book, so the developers are restricted to copy everything and get it in the game.' (->That's how I get it) When you are making something that's based on a movie or a book, you still give it your way to make it how you want it to be, right? Based is not copying! So if the book is not writtin for the game, why should the developers force the game to be linear? Everybody knows that copying/convert a book to a movie/game is a riscy progress and many people dislikes it. And I am almost certain that Metro 2033 isn't exactly the same as the book.

Although there are choices, it only comes back at the endings. In this part I can be totaly wrong, because I didn't realised it yet. But if you leave the people behind and die, it only gives you a negative moral point. That only affects your ending, not your gameplay throughout the game. (I can be wrong about this, but I have read this at http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Endings) May I englighten you: Let's compare this with Dishonored. If you murder everyone, the streets will fill with weepers(zombies). That will even make it harder for you, while if you kill nobody, there almost won't be any weeper. There are much more stuff like this in Dishonored, but my point is: if the developers of Metro 2033 did something like this, Metro 2033 would be a way more interesting game. And I think it would fit perfectly in the game.

Ah, the good old fashiond COD comparison. Please, don't comparis games of other genres and playing styles/gameplays. COD = Mainly multiplayer. Singleplayer is an extra feature to invest more time in the game. So the COD developers see multiplayer as the main target. Metro 2033 is only singleplayer. Thats the main target. So it's logic that COD has less campaign hours than Metro 2033, because COD = multiplayer game.

It took me 12 hours of gameplay to complete this game on the hardest difficulty, and I don't even knew about the different endings. Here is something usefull: http://www.howlongtobeat.com/gamebreakdown.php?gameid=497 Sure if I tried to have all achievements and experience everything of this game, it would take +- 40 hours.(I think that's too much, but the statics show this, so I go with it.) If played this game like me you can get +- 10 hours of gameplay to beat it once. For a singleplayer game what you can beat in +- 10 hours is way too short. What about other RPG's like The Elder Scrolls series(maybe a bad comparison) + Fallout 3 + Far Cry 3(Not realy a RPG game, but it took me to complete this game on hardest difficulty and 100% like +- 45 hours with an awesome multiplayer) My point is: There are games with lots of gameplay hours, and games with some less gameplay hours, but please create games with many hours, it hurts to pay 60 euros/dollars for a +- 10 hour game to complete. Same as my other favorite game Max Payne 3.
