Waste of Money
My rig runs all Crysis 1 to 3 fine! Farcry 3? Lovely! Bioshock Infinite? Great! Metro 3 dated game? Horible. Dont buy this POS. Whoever did the graphics part of this game should be sacked.....hours of tweaking and graphics resolution reduction results in the same laggy junk.

I agree that the game is poorly optimized, considering that there are several other dx11 games that runs better. But the game itself is wonderful and not playing the game at all would be a shame. If not on the pc, because of performance, then atleast play it on the console.

Hopefully, the sequel won't suffer the same issues as it's prequel.

Try this workaround to get a huge performance boost: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/935068-metro-2033/53980673

Works fine for me.

Thats funny because my old rig runs this game completely great and fine. Optimalization is just fine. Only you have some bad luck on wrong configuration of hardware probably

Runs very well for me, no lags or glitches whatsoever.

For me too

Chances are the problem is his rig. The game runs very smooth and it seems remarkably well optimized in terms of performance. I find the first post of the thread rather hard to believe, especially where it states that Bioshock Infinite runs great, I would say that Bioshock on ultra is quite a bit more demanding than Metro of the same quality.

Just ignore threads like this, almost every game on steam has some one whining about how beast their rig is but still can't play a old game. This game runs perfectly fine.

when i first got metro 2033 i couldnt play it very well because of my outdated computer then i got a new pc and it runs smooth and i can crank it to high with out freezing, and i love the game and i disagree that its a waste of money.

The game is well documented as having poor optimisations for the maximum graphics settings.. SSAO and DX11 Tesselation are both poorly done. That is not to say that switching those settings off makes the game look terrible, nor that certain machines cant run the game with them switched on and still get smooth frames (SLI helps there).. but if you check your GPU usage and Vram usage they spike like crazy in certain scenes with max settings on, regardless of how high-end your hardware is.
Take into account how much 2033 has to render in comparison to say a game like Farcry3 and you really start to see how bad the optimisations in 2033 were, FC3 being able to render huge fields and mountains with loads of explosions and debris (pushing my GPU to 70% at times with all settings maxed).. 2033 with its Tunnels and closed enviroments (making my GPU spike to 90% at random moments when the SSAO kicks in).

It doesn't mean its a bad game, nor a waste of money, but to claim 2033 was remarkably well optimised is just not true, at least not on the maximum graphics settings.

Thank you, I stand corrected. This was an overstatement on my behalf as I did not actually research the issue and was merely stating my own experience - and the game runs remarkably well for me. I do have SLI though...

Didn't work for me... :/

they did a good job of using the API's for DX11 nobody is optimising DX11 code while making the game.
they use thier SDK's to best utilise the API's witrhin the context of the game they are making.
the DX 11 drivers and hardware available are ♥♥♥♥,
most that claim to be DX11 ready are obvilouly full of it.
Nvida and AMD only have a few top end cards that can do DX 11 half way decent..
most stamp DX 11 ready on the side so you spend the extra $20 or whatever to make yourself feel better thinking the budget card you just bought is actually going to be able to do all the DX11 features and still run at a good frame rate.

Run a few benchmarks (there is a benchmarking tool in the game folder) at various levels and adjust your settings accordingly.

I have a 6 year old PC with an updated graphics card that that is only I believe an ATI HD4350 or something like that and it runs it fine as long as I'm not trying to run it on max settings.
