Gave it another go
Hey guys. I played this game a while ago (1 year or so) and was EXTREMELY irritated and unimpressed with it. I think part of the problem was that I was trying to play a first person shooter - and frankly, this game isn't really an FPS. Yes, I know it has all the elements, but if you play this like an FPS you are going to play it WRONG. I played it wrong the first time and that led to my dissapointment in the game. I recently got the sequel because of all the good scores it got, and liked it. But I realized that alot of the things that were going on were unfamiliar to me because I never played the first one all the way through - I gave up on it. So before I went any further with Metro Last Light I decided to give this game another go and play it like it was meant to be played. And I am happy I did. First off, I put it on easy mode - I didn't want to get frustrated, because the game can be a little unforgiving at times, especially for a person who is used to the quick-save feature. And I replayed it. I'm still not done, but I am so glad I gave this game a second chance. And when I beat it, and I am DEFINATELY going to beat it this time, I've got Metro Last Light to play afterwards. So for all of you people who got frustrated or annoyed at it, I think the problem is that you are thinking like an FPS player and not a Metro player, which is a completely different style of game and requires a completely different approach to the game. As it is, now I HIGHLY recommend this game to all my friends, and this definately goes down in my top 10 games of the year list.

Great job on a great game - give it a chance, you won't regret it.

Hehe Metro 2033 is a good game. I'm currently playing it on easy as well. I missed the opportunity to buy armor though. I can't believe you can't buy armor past Polis..........aside from that I'm enjoying this game very very much. Sure it feels that it lacks some polish in some minor aspects but overall it's a very well thought and executed game.

Yes METRO 2033 is a fantastic intensely atmospheric game. I did the same thing you did treating it as a first person shooter instead of a rpg and got frustrated. I just came back to it with a different mindset after jumping into METRO LAST LIGHT and was really enjoying it. Unfortunately its not too friendly with Windows 7 32 bit version so am playing METRO LAST LIGHT for now untill am in the mood to track down all the fixes for METRO 2033.

I've been playing this game on normal... gotta be sneaky in order to be able to kill everyone and still survive.

I don't get that i need to think like "metro player" instead of "fps player"...it's still just normal FPS with stealth elements. Also it's not that hard on Ranger-hardcore mode btw.

Metro 2033 is not meant to be an FPS.

it is meant to be an emotional experience, a turly changing game.

So I guess I wasn't the only one having troubles some years ago with metro 2033 and W7 32bit.

In fact the first time I saw this game was when me and my brother were younger (and with no money and didn't know steam) and played a "free" version of the game and we were like "what a piece of trash, this looks and plays horrible" again it was us playing it as a CoD or another generic FPS (with nothing special) and the game itself (crappy patched exe as it was a pirate game).

Now, with steam, its one of my fovorite games ever. I'm waiting for Metro Last Light to be released for Linux (yes, its happening, its official later this year)

Funny thing is it ran just fine for me when i first played it under Windows XP but i put it aside for the already mentioned reasons then came back to it after seeing how great METRO LAST LIGHT is. Oh well at least it will be fun looking for bug fixes :D
