depends on what your enemy is using in terms of weapons and armor. better physical armor will negate kew's so if they use that best o switch to energy weapons. and vice versa if the enemy uses reflective coating.

so if they dont have shields use lasers and if they do use KEWs

Also upgrade to AP drivers, while they do less damage, they're a lot more accurate and more likely to hit rather than bounce off. Which increases the damage output of your mass driver equiped ships :3

And mass drivers can do stupid amounts of damage when you use the right stances and have fire-control command sections or adimirals with +10% accuracy or rate of fire boosts ;)

It also depends on your race. Certain races have better chances at getting energy weapons, others lean towards ballistics. But the sadorandomiser can still screw you up either way.

im the SOL Force and i have my ships now equiped with a main heavy mass driver and two mass drivers on the bow of the battle bridge and the light turets are red and X-ray lasers
Gigan Jan 5, 2013 @ 1:00pm
do not EVER use red-lasers unless you want to save money on a NON-COMBAT design or maybe get your enemy to lough himself to death
they are the weakest laser there are with the worst range the lowest accuracy and the worst ricochet chance
x-ray laser are qiute good though the only better "laser" is the pulsed phaser

i tend to tuen all my light turrets into PD

basicly weapons in SotS II have 3 important stats
Damage : Thats how much Damage your weapon deals to the enemys structure once you've cut through his armor, provided you hit him

Deviation (=inaccuracy): should this be above ~2° you need to get into "close in" combat stance if you want your projectiles to hit in a regulary basis

Armor Damage Grid : That's the shape of damage your weapon creates on the enemies armor
here it's the deeper the better

also important are
rate of fire and number of shots per salvo

these are especially important since armordamge and volleynumbers are not shown anywhere ingame (unless they just added this) so i would advise you to look at the weaponcharts in the wiki they have all information there

Also having pd on your ship is VERY impotant since it protects you not only from missiles but also from heavy torpedoes and nasty things like bording pots (losing your first leviathan to enemy bording pots is not really a good fealing:)

what kills spectares fastest
and how do i keep them from insta-killing my ships
Honorable_D Jan 6, 2013 @ 12:35am
Specteres are weak to missiles and energy weapons. Sadly, most ballistic cannons are near useless against them.

They'll insta kill ships if they latch onto them... so the best way to kill them is to fly away from them while launching missiles at them so they never catch up to you.
