Question on Battleriders

I was reading up on the manual, and it states that you can have Battleriders and System Defence Boats. Battleriders are what is carried by carriers, but are SDB just battleriders that haven't been assigned a carrier? And if so do they have to be part of a fleet for them to defend a system?

According to the Wiki, SDBs are slightly larger than BRs and serve a different purpose. I haven't yet tested them, so I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but since you can place BR platforms as system defense after researching Deep Space Hangars, and SDBs are made available through Stealthed Structures, I wager there really is a difference.

SDB are a fair bit more powerful and larger than battleriders - sorta mini-cruisers in power and they're only useable by placing them into the battle manager. They're a fully mobile ship you can control in combat after "destealthing" them in battle by clicking on their symbol in Sensor View.

Basically they're much more beefier police cutters that you choose when you want them to appear in battle.

They cost 3 points to deploy I think.
