Ghost ship
So early game i get metors, slavers and ghost ship.

While slavers and meteors are defeatable, ghost ship seems like mopping the floor with whatever i throw at him.So far my best tactic when i see him is just try to lure him off so he destroys some ships or a station and leave the planets alone....Any hints?

Is this a grand menace? I set that variable to zero. Maybe that's why I've never encountered said ship...

hmm i dont think its grand menace, in original grand menaces are much later ingame and much more nasty ....

The ghost ships is a very mean ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Chances are very high that when it shows up you'll have no good way of ending it. It will always go for stations if you have them up and leave the planet alone. Thankfully, its been nerfed pretty hard from its first version... god, it could nuke a size 10 fully developed planet in under a minute when it first came out.

But, it attacks your enemies just as much as it does you - it gets around quick. Also, once killed, either by you or another empire, it won't ever show up again. If you do manage to kill it you get a massive boost to research I think for like 5-6 turns.

one thing I noticed about the ghostship is that it doesn't repair, it keeps all the damage that's been done to it from every battle. So don't be afraid to lose a fleet or two, even if it hurts in early game, you should be able to destroy it on your third encounter with a fleet present (other players ghostship encounters count into this too as long as they deal damage on it)

I advise tons of drones and torpedos. Boading pods MIGHT work, but I've never had the opportunity to try it.

Blazer / Torpedo combo works best in my experience. Don't use homing weaponry against it; too much pd and the fire rate of homing weapons is too low to get past them even in large numbers. And as other people have said in the past try to keep a level 1 naval station at each system. If you have a good start you should be able to destroy it on the first encounter if you don't expand rapidly (not too sure with the raised upkeep cost of cruisers)

As stated above, the Ghost ship will be trashing your opponents' systems as fast as it trashes yours, so just keep rebuilding until someone kills it. If an enemy has a high-value world near the last place it appeared, send a small colonizer fleet there and you might get lucky. If you're playing hiver, concentrate your defence on just a couple of outlying worlds to keep those gates intact.

k thanks guys. Built a station on every system and instructed the personell on the first sight of ghost ship to run to escape pods like little rabbits lol.

Ghost Ship is basically going to hurt really bad until you're about 100 turns in or so and have a shot at destroying it (or have whittled it down - it doesn't repair inbetween combats). It's my least favorite random, tbh - I kind of wish they'd remove it - or at least make it only come after at least 50 turns have passed. The damned thing can and will on occasion totally end your early game by wrecking your home system. It's not fun - it adds nothing to the game :-\

im not suprised it hurts like hell. its mean to be a levi class sol force ship.

I know where it came from, but does anyone know who is controlling the thing? Is it under AI control? I'm just curious about the lore around it.
GiantPotato Dec 5, 2012 @ 4:55pm
If you REALLY hate it then you can mess around with "Sword of the Stars II\assets\base\factions\ghostship\sections\lv_SFS.section" to nerf it. The <Struct> section affects hit points. But I personally like having some of the random events affect the game a bit more than others.
