Up With Episdoe 21.. And Things get interesting.

The war with the humans has been going on for some time... In the last few episodes we researched technology and weapons to help us defeat them.. We start a massive buildup of shipbuilding to launch a major offensive. In this episode the buildup continues.... We start sending out scouts to find the other human colonies... And we stumble onto a surprise chance that will change the war forever.

Heh, this let's play demonstrates exactly when I posted in the Loa cubes bugged thread. You can't build any of the default fleet comps with the default fleets now. You used to be able to on Friday but something happened to the cost of cube->ship conversion (or ship costs in general for Loa) and now you can't do it without transferring cubes between the fleets and then building more right off the bat. See the 10 minute mark in the video when all fleet comps are red and you only have enough cubes to build 2 of the ships in the survey fleet comp.

Episode Three is up and running..

My basic plan in this lets play is to play the LOA faithfully and basically seek revenge against those dam fleshlings....

The fleshlings have already harassed us with a massive space vessel, Called the Leviathan. They will pay for there ways. They have also found ways to send our own Asteroids in Neighboring systems to attack our planets... We have Investigated to word the fleshing call evil.... It seems to fit there methods of interaction well. We will use there own words against them when the LOA fleets decimate there planets... Revenge is a cold Metallic Hand clenched in a fist of power.

Yup I have noticed a few problems like that. You can see me get frustrated with it a lot. Also sometimes you can't change fleets at all, you have to convert to a cube, then change to another ship.

But the problem with you having enough cubes to build a fleet, but not being able to do it is annoying too.

I still think that there are way to many events like ghost ship and meteors in the game. Losing 4 planets in 50 turns to these things is just insane. Totally. It still seems like the game is you vs the random event generator.. And every once in awhile you have to fight a AI empire. LOL;

... and to me, this video explains exactly what's wrong with SOTS2. 15 minutes into it, the narrator, who seems to like the game, is still struggling to explain this single, narrow aspect of the new expansion. SOTS 1 was streamlined and reasonably simple, while retaining strategic and tactical depth. This... is not quite my idea of fun...

sots 1 also took 2-3 years to reach that point.

Yes, but the devs are quite happy with the current interface, AFAICT. There's been lots of arguments over what I thought was complicated (not all of them I was involved in, and some were very old). In other words, the devs listen only to the self-reinforcing opinions, or maybe think the target audience likes the complexity of the game (I'm not only talking about the interface, the GAMEPLAY is too complicated).
Commodore Dannerson Dec 9, 2012 @ 8:34am
i have to dissagree with you there. i dont find the gamplay or interface to complicated. also what is AFAICT?
Shadow Dec 9, 2012 @ 8:37am
AFAICT = As far as I can tell, I think. ;)
Commodore Dannerson Dec 9, 2012 @ 8:38am
one of the more pointless acronyms ive seen.

Yep

Off the top of my head I know the devs want to improve the after battle report window and the weapon selector windows to show actual damage values and armor damage patterns. So no, they are NOT totally fine with the current interface.

The game has a somewhat steep learning curve. While this is unfourtenate the game is what it is due to the complexity. The bugs and the other problems only make this more confusing.
