How much is it downloading? The actual game is only 2-3 gigs if I remember correctly.

The actual game is about 4.5 gb from the dvd, at the all clear last october it needed 1.5 gb of patches, and since then topresent dats is another 350 mb.

Steam has a nasty habit, in that if the game you are installing from dvd is the FIRST steam game on your system, then when the copy of steam installed from the dvd detects that it is out of date, it will auto update and restart, blowing out the install process, then steam tries to insist that you finish or repair the game install by downloading off the web...

Browse the dvd, find the installer for the game, run it..., install the 4.5 gb, then download the 1.85 gb of patches...

Or just install SOTS-1

To be fair you really don't want to play (and heck can't play) SotS 2 unpatched from the DVD ;)

That said as for if its worth playing now it mostly is. A lot has been improved and if you spend some time reading the manual (linked on the starting page) and some guides you can get a lot out of the game. There ARE still some quirks and some features feel like they need a little adjusting or polishing - but they are still updating.

SotS 1 is likely the best to jump in and game with although if youv'e never played it before you'll still have to read some manuals and guides just to get the hang of the title (most 4* games are like this unless you enjoy spending hours and hours gaming to find things out for yourself of course).

Thanks overread :) Yes i've played a fair bit of SOTS1. I'll take your advice and read the manual before giving SOTS2 a go. Thanks again for your help.
