I kind of like this game, but I'm more interested in a simpler game with larger space battles.
Any suggestions?

Wait for a sale. Personally I have dropped $100 on it (I've been with the game since its release in 2008 so you can count the original $50, 2 micro expansion packs at $10 and a discount with Rebellion at $30) and still continue to get my money's worth every day.

Try out Sins of A Solar Empire: Trinity, @ Gamestop they have it for 19.95. I think it is the precursor to Rebellion, hmm looking at the description it is the first three bundled. Sins, Entrenchment and Diplomacy... Don't know why it says 'requires steam to install and play' it did not used to be that way...

Stardock I belive got rid of their own distro channel and is using steam now

I'm suggesting Stardrive, an indie game but really cool tough, it's on steam, a large amount of mods too and yummy graphics.
The ship design is huge tough, you can spend 10 minutes for just one ship in late games just cause it's fun, then watch that beast of a ship murder everything, but economy and research is farily straight forward. Have a try at it. :)

Looks like Sins of Solar Empire with weaker graphics and cartoon characters. Seems interesting. I might check it out of it is on sale.

Yeah! pretty cool for a 1-man indie company =) What shines is the ship designer (if you like to design your' ships)

Try SOTS Original then... It is a much simpler version of SOTS II and lot's bigger battles and fleets by far.

As for those that keep pushing Sins of a Solar Empire.. Not even the same type game plus it is real time. While not a bad game it, for me, does not hold the same interest.

Try the original Sword of the Stars. If you like SOTS II as you said, you will probably love the original.. You can get it at Gamers Gate .com as well as couple other locations.

SOTS 1 is the game that you're looking for.

If you are looking for a better version of SOTS 2 then SOTS 1 is the one you want.

A game with bigger space battles? I can not think of even one that has that, without it employing some 'trick' to handle it - like MoO2 you could have 80 dreaqdnaughts, but you would simply have one dreadnaught with the number 80 on it to control in the combat. If you want beigger battles where the ships are more than just a number? The only real answer is SotS2, but with you editing the command limits so you have even more ships.

Bigger space battles? How can I have more than three dreadnoughtsin one fleet? Do I have to research something?
SINS Rebellion has pretty big battles btw.

Yah research :) I think the biggest single fleet I have committed in an un-modded game was one Leviathan carrier and 6 hunter carriers, plus 2 supporting cruisers, along with their 18 hunters and 30 ish battle riders. Thats over 50 ships, all with individually animated turrets and fire power. Alas it was getting a bit too much for my computer to keep up with when you include the enemy as well.

With modding - you can get even more ships.

Yah you are right - SINS had a fair number of ships on screen, but somehow the level of detail in those ships just makes them feel like glorified fighters. The SotS ships, with their turrets, feel like a more significant battle platform with firepower in all directions, rather than a unit that shoots an enemy unit and occasionally makes use of a special ability. SotS feels like a fleet of battle ships, SINS feels like a furball of fighters. Perception thing I am sure, and I guess the OP would prefer the simplicity of SINS.
